Dec. 17th, 2009 12:04 amAm back in the hometown. Not as cold as I expected, and for once in my bloody life, everything was on time. My flight from Houston left about half an hour late, but it got into Sea-Tac at the same time as the original flight was expected to. Even the shuttle was on time! My brain cannot quite process this.
I'm not sure what's shocking me more about being back in Washington: the snow, the pine trees, the license plates, or the fact that there are hills (just wait until I wake up and see mountains). The hills are winning. Look, the closest things New Orleans has to hills are the levees and the parts of the sidewalk that stick up at awkward angles because of tree roots, especially that bit on St. Charles that literally is a couple feet higher than everything else around it. The license plate thing got me last year, I was expecting the snow, for some reason, the fact that there is elevated ground is taking me by surprise.
