babbling, and also a CHALLENGE
Mar. 12th, 2010 10:57 amI am not thinking about the many, many papers I have to write over the next month and a half (seven, for anyone counting, at least two of which are 10+ pages, and all but one of which are research papers). Instead I am focusing my general hatred in HRL's direction, because for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to type on this document. I mean, I already printed it out and filled it out manually, but the instructions say to type, and therefore it must be theoretically possible to type, but I can't do it.
Also, this weekend I have to teach myself how to use Excel, and then I will probably cry. Also, I must read many many books about the Byzantine Empire and warfare in medieval England and also another chunk out of The Faerie Queene.
Also, yesterday my tote bag spontaneously developed a hole, which means I have to go back to the purse I was using last semester, which -- I mean, it's a nice bag (it's this bag with a different print and some sequins) and I didn't stop using it because it developed holes or anything, but the beads on the shoulder strap are not that comfortable and it's not as big as I'd like. Which -- my tote bag was actually bigger than I preferred for a purse, but it was big enough that I could carry a large amount of books around. So there's that, at least until I can get another bag. *sigh* Although I have to admit I love the Internet; I bitched about this on Twitter, and about an hour later the Ravelry twitter folks were telling me to contact shopping@Ravelry, because apparently those bags Shouldn't Do That. So Twitter is amazing, and also love.
In other news, I am mentally casting The Faerie Queene in my head, and may later do a post. Cate Blanchett for Gloriana (well, DUH). Mirando Otto for Britomart. Ben Barnes for the Redcrosse Knight. David Wenham for Guyon. Katie McGrath for Una. Am vaguely considering breaking the early modern England mold and casting Zoe Saldana for Belphoebe, or if not, Keira Knightley, although I am unconvinced if either of them has the sheer presence to pull it off. I cannot think of a young actress that does.
This weekend I am getting a prospie, my very own prospective student, to show around campus and generally try and get her to try and come to Tulane, so this should be fun. (Also, I would like to know what's with the pattern of people in my suite + Chicago getting littles or prospies with similar names to other people. There are two Emilys and an Erin, and my prospie's name is Katherine. My suite + Chicago consists of a Katrina, an Elizabeth, an Erin, a Lesley (moldbreaker!), and an Emily.)
I miss Narnia. I also miss not feeling like I am in a frenzied rush, which is partially my own fault, but still.
On the bright side, the weather is lovely, and I will leave you with this quote from my textbook: "His behavior became more and more bizarre: apparently the emperor occasionally bit members of the court, and he would spend hours listening to organ music." GUESS THE ROMAN/BYZANTINE EMPEROR. WHOEVER GETS IT RIGHT GETS A DRABBLE.
