Jul. 12th, 2010 02:24 pmIt is crazy windy here -- Yahoo! Weather tells me forty-two miles per hour, with a severe weather advisory -- and dear CWU, when I said you could blow me, I did not mean literally blow me across campus. The wind started up late last night, before I went to bed, and my bedroom is on the second floor and surrounded by trees, which translates to really really noisy. I did not sleep well last night, at all, whatsoever, which I mentioned in Latin this morning. The response I got from another guy in the class?
"Oh, honey. You'd better get used to that."
Me: *flat stare* "I've lived here for fifteen years."
"...oh."
I hate people, guys. I really hate people. Ugh, the smug condescension! And I have mentioned -- to him, in person, even! -- many times that I am from Ellensburg (which is known for being windy). And he called me "honey", which I'm pretty used to getting in New Orleans ("baby" is more common, I think), but not here, and definitely not with that inflection. Dude, I know you are from the Midwest: I know just enough about Midwest dialect to know that that is not acceptable, and it is definitely not acceptable here, and gods, I really hate people. I did not even work out what bothered me so much until after class, and it was the "honey" and the condescension.
You know what makes it worse? This is the same guy that made the crack about Hurricane Katrina happening because New Orleans was built on a swamp.
(High point of the day: other girl wearing Star Trek TOS uniform over jeans.)
