Jul. 2nd, 2011 10:40 amI think the lady at the Continental special services check-in desk assumed I was an unaccompanied minor, because that's the fastest I've ever checked in in my life. I'd just stepped in at the end of a long, long line when she looked at me and said, "Oh, I can help you over here!"
I fly with my hair in pigtails/twin braids, you see, which makes me look younger. (I need to put my hair up in such a way that I can lean back without difficulty, which I can't do with it in a ponytail or a bun. Experimentation has proven that twin braids both gets my hair out of my face and allows me to lean back.) And I had both parents with me -- well, my dad had just taken off after looking at the line, leaving me with my mother. Otherwise, I'm just one more girl with a suitcase -- although after seeing everyone else's luggage at the airport, I'm now convinced that I'm traveling light. (One suitcase, polka-dotted, one backpack, green, and one purse, mustard.) I have my knitting, I have three books (Spindle's End and The Peshawar Lancers in my backpack, The Empire of Tea in my purse), I have a bottle of water, three Satsumas, and a muffin. And about twenty more hours in transit. *weeps*
Also...for some reason part of my brain thinks I'm going to Australia. Which is a longer flight. On the other side of the world. But they also speak English there. I don't know, what the fuck, brain.
