Jul. 3rd, 2011 08:58 amI am in London, comfortably ensconced with
clanwilliam! And also pondering why I am, seriously, the least prepared tourist who ever did tourist. For one thing, I was in such a state of denial that I never bothered to look anything up, including currency, touristy things, transport, maps, or, well, anything. My one and only plan was "get to London. Things will work themselves out from there."
Anyway. After a nap, I only want to die a little bit instead of a whole lot. (I was up for twenty-four hours, I eventually worked out via calculating time changes. The hours I lost over the Atlantic appear to have been rediscovered in the immigration line: that was hideous. I have been through immigration at Sea-Tac and Narita before, and I don't remember if ever being that bad.)
I should -- probably work out what I want to do. If there's anything I want to do. I never thought this far ahead because I was too busy trying not to freak the fuck out.
(Flight one was fine, stopover was fine, flight two was fine and fully of American college students on their way to summer programs in London, some of us bonded in the hour+ wait in Immigration, changed money, wishing the dollar was higher or the pound was lower, eventually figured out how to buy a ticket for the Tube, made it to my station, then realized I'd never bothered to print out the maps, freaked out, payphone ate my money, freaked out some more, eventually got the payphone working, and now am here.)
More importantly: oh, excellent. That fic I'm obsessed with has updated. Okay, I was totally not made to be a tourist and/or a visitor anywhere except home.
