Nov. 7th, 2011 11:23 amHave just remembered that I can (and have been advised to) look at post-baccalaureate programs in the U.S., which at least generally cost less and will make me a better PhD candidate. Also, their application deadlines are in the spring, not RIGHT NOW. I'd completely forgotten that was an option, so I'm glad I remembered. (My mother will also be glad, I'm sure.) Post-baccs aren't funded, but I've got some money from my grandparents, no undergrad student loans, and the completely reasonable expectation that my grandparents might pay if I asked very nicely. Also, let's put it this way: one year in a post-bacc program = one semester at Tulane. The only good thing about going to this fifty grand a year fancy-pants private university is that my expectations about uni cost are completely skewed.
So! That's something of a relief. It means I have options even if I blow my deadlines/don't get into any of the grad schools whose deadlines are December 1. STRESS. I HAZ IT. Oh look! UNC's deadline is December 13. Perhaps I shall apply there. IF I EVER GET MY FREAKING GRE SCORES. (Yes. I am now starting to panic about this, since they're supposed to arrive in November.)
(And I looked at what I have on my thesis and went, "Well, my first chapter is going to be on reading Virgil in the medieval and early modern periods, instead of a close-up study of the ekphrasis. It's what's going to be easiest to me to write in two weeks and it's kind of what I wanted to write anyway.")

Er. Three good things:
1. I look really good today! I suspect I look a little 1940s, since I'm wearing a button-up shirt and a tea-length skirt with kitten heels, but I like it, so that's what counts. And I got up early enough to do my hair.
2. Also...I ate breakfast. But they were kind of running out of food. *hands*
3. I did not fail my Greek quiz! But my professor is so worried that she is giving it to us again tomorrow. I AM SICK OF THE FRAKKING PRINCIPLE PARTS STOP PLEASE. This is the third quiz on principle parts in a week. Perhaps she might consider that there is something wrong with the way she is teaching it instead of giving us another quiz the next day in hopes that we will improve our dismal scores. (This is unlikely, by the way, considering she's giving us less than twenty-four hours notice.)
Well. There were good things in there.
