I sometimes wish that there was a more central location for fandom. You know, so that one could go, "Hey, I'm going to be an entering freshman at Tulane next year, is anybody else there or going to be?"

Or a fannish scholarship. "Please write a short essay on how fandom has impacted your life..."

Or, having just come from the Top 10% Luncheon, something similar, where we all share our accomplishments. "Bedlamsbard has been in fandom for six years and has not contributed much. Like many other fans, she began in Harry Potter, which she left after the disaster that was OotP. After this she lurked for the better part of a year, at which point she caught a chance episode of CSI:NY and started a Livejournal account in order to embrace the young fandom. She also participated in Miracle fandom for a short time. Her greatest aaddition to the CSI:NY fandom was the Bardverse series, which featured CSU Detective Danny Messer as the heir to an unconvential Italian mafia family. After two years, she lost interest and moved to greener pastures, which were in fact only greener in the sense that everyone else had left -- this would be the Star Wars fandom, where she wrote numerous AUs. She made a brief return to Harry Potter, where she wrote one James Potter/Sirius Black fic that had people talking, and a few that featured Oliver Wood. She has also dabbled in SGA, PotC, Bones, Firefly, Eureka, Brigadoon, and Into the Woods. During the great Strikeout 2007 Crisis, as well as LJ and 6A's others myriad snafus, she, like so many others, quietly supported fandom but made no great movements. She has recently discovered del.icio.us, where she has begun crusading to tag everything of quality, most of which seems to be SGA McShep fic. In 2007, she participated in a number of ficathons, including [livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon, where she wrote her first PotC fic. Lately, fandom has not seen much of her, since she has been spending most of her time working on her original novel. She hopes to make a glorious return, although in what fandom she is not yet certain."

...okay, if fandom was like the last two weeks of high school, it would, perhaps, be terrifying.

I've always thought a database of fandom members, with short biographies, would be dead useful. Particularly since really good writers tend to dabble in multiple fandoms. After all, there's nothing more frustrating than wanting fanfic for a particular work, and discovering that the only way to get it is to wade through the muck on fanfiction.net (or the fandom equivalent), hoping to unearth something worth reading.

I know there's a fannish wikipedia -- I can't remember what the name is, but I know it's out there. I just don't know how the majority of fandom feels about it.

If fandom were like high school, I'd run far, far away.

That's quite a varied resume you've got there, makes me want to poke around for stuff. Oliver Wood!

Well, fandom is a lot like high school, in the sense of there are a lot of teenagers and when you get a lot of people together then there is drama. On the bright side, there aren't classes and/or tests.

*laughs* All my fanfic's under the fanfic tag.
