God, I haven't posted fic in so long that I forgot what a hit feedback is. Like taking coke straight to the vein...not that I know what's like, so maybe not the best analogy ever. Of course, the fact that I actually jumped on a fandom when it's hot is a shock too. (Star Wars, three years after Ep. III came out. Ha. HA.)

And now I have plot bunnies. This is good! As soon as I get my head out of the faux-high English bit so the Pevensies will sound like real people.
"Look: he worsens, he grows weak," Edmund said, placing his palm over the High King's heart.

"I fear for the fate of Narnia should it become known that the High King is taken gravely ill," said Edmund. "Our so-called allies wait for the slightest sign of weakness; if it should be known that Peter cannot fight, or that he has passed into the land of Aslan -- I have not Peter's skill in the art of war."

Without the Ye Olde High Fantasy speech, please. *kicks* It's okay for Lewis, but I would like my characters to be speaking, you know, like actual people, so instead of things like the above, Edmund says, "He likes me," and Susan says, "You mean he'd like to eat you."

Awww, but Ye Olde High Fantasy speech is so quaint! LOL!

I must admit, I always wondered why the Pevensies started talking like that just because they grew up. I mean, there was never any evidence that any of the Narnians spoke like that, and Aslan certainly didn't, so where did they pick it up from? Or did they just think that kings and queens ought to sound like that and after a while it became a habit?

Yes, but it makes me want to burn my fingers to the bone!

My theory has a lot to do with my interpretation of the books: Lewis is telling a story, and the only way he can think to make it seem like the Pevensies have grown up is to change their speaking habits. Er, wait, something like that. I don't know. Formal court language, maybe? I mean, we don't actually see any Narnian kings and queens beyond the Pevensies and Caspian and Miraz, who aren't really Narnian kings so much. Oh, and that idiot Tirian in Last Battle.
