Part 1 is here.
16. The White Witch’s Narnia was larger than Caspian’s, and Peter’s was twice the size of the White Witch’s. At the end of his reign, he ruled from Harfang in the North to the mountains of Archenland in the South; from the Lone Islands in the Eastern Ocean to beyond the Western Waste in the West.
17. During the Golden Age, the countries on Narnia’s western border included Telmar, Belgarion, Shoushan, Natare, and Lasci (which was conquered by Peter about five years before the Pevensies vanished). By the time Caspian was crowned, the border had shrank so far east that Narnia no longer bordered any of those countries; instead, the Western Wild encompassed most of what had previously been Narnian land and knowledge of these countries had mostly been lost.
18. Within six months of the High King’s disappearance, everything north of the River Shribble – recently conquered giant territory – the territory of Lasci, and all island territories had declared independence. Within Narnia itself, factions began to rip the country apart – the few surviving White Witch worshippers, various groups that felt they’d been stinted by the Pevensies, those who simply wished power. There was a huge amount of pressure on the West, where the Pevensies had vanished, because it had traditionally had the greatest number of White Witch worshippers. The western nations formed a loose alliance and invaded Narnia; this is when Cair Paravel was destroyed (Tumnus and the Beavers died here). Calormene and Islander pirates attacked the eastern seaboard. This period of time lasted for roughly three hundred years, and is known as the Dying Times. Ironically, the Dying Times ended when the Telmarines entered Narnia; Telmarine attempts at wiping out native Narnians didn’t begin for another hundred years.
19. The verse that the Black Knight (Prince Rilian) speaks of in The Silver Chair is engraved on the tomb of the giant king Peter killed in single combat the year he vanished.
20. Lucy adjusted to leaving Narnia the best. Peter adjusted the worst.
21. After his sword, Peter’s favorite weapons are a pair of axes gifted to him by a dwarf clan in the North. Susan favors her bow, Edmund his sword. Lucy prefers a pair of long-bladed daggers.
22. Lucy has the fewest memories of Narnia, and most of her clearest memories are from her time with Caspian, not her own reign. In contrast, Peter remembers almost everything from both his times in Narnia; he remembers Narnia better than he does his life in England before Narnia.
23. Peter gets really, dreadfully, horribly seasick, and even Lucy’s cordial doesn’t help.
24. Edmund had an illegitimate daughter in Narnia – she would have been about three when the Pevensies vanished – and when he came back in Caspian’s time, he did his best to find out what happened to her and her mother, even though it was nearly impossible to trace individual records. He later found out they’d been murdered by one of the radical groups that rose up during the early days of the Dying Times. (His daughter’s mother was a very nice woman, and she and Edmund never married for a number of reasons. One was that it was politically advisable to keep him available as long as possible. Another was that, as she kindly told him, if they got married they’d probably hate each other within days, and Edmund would join Peter in never being at Cair Paravel. The third was that she was already married. But they were very fond of each other, and good friends.)
25. Peter carried out all his own executions by public beheading. If he wasn’t available, Edmund would do it, but that was fairly rare, since Peter’s preference was to take responsibility. If neither one was available, Susan or Lucy both knew they’d be expected to do so. Susan never had to, but Lucy did once. She was sick afterwards, but only because she hadn’t cut through the neck on the first swing and it took her three to completely do so.
26. There’s very little Narnian history remaining from before the Long Winter. The White Witch destroyed all literature and cultural artifacts she could get her hands on, and ruthlessly punished any oral exchange of Narnian legends and history. Any community leaders were killed; the few that survived were turned into stone. (A number of these later became ringleaders in several attempts to overthrow the Pevensies and were executed by Peter.)
27. Being able to mend one’s own clothes generally being a useful skill during campaign season, both Peter and Edmund can knit and sew. They can actually do so better than Lucy and Susan, who never had to do much of either.
28. Despite Peter’s very public declaration that he and Susan would never be able to return to Narnia, there are three schools of thought regarding his return: one, that Peter the High King will return at the end of the world; two, that should the House of Caspian the Telmarine ever do wrong by Narnia, then Peter the High King shall return and set it right; and three, that should any true Narnian call upon Peter the High King in any time of genuine need, then the High King will return and the word of Aslan be damned.
29. The Magician’s Nephew is a creation myth. The Last Battle is a destruction/apocalypse myth.
30. The Narnian Royal Guard is primarily made up of great cats (leopards, tigers, wildcats, jaguars, and the like).
31. After they return to England (both times), there is something subtly off about the Pevensies. Speech patterns, body language, references – some of them are better at adjusting to “1940s British pre-teen/teenager” than others; it’s easier for Lucy and Edmund than it is for Susan and Peter. Susan makes a conscious effort to adjust and very nearly (though not quite) manages it. Peter never does; it’s one of the reasons he has very few friends outside of his immediate family. And he never did manage to relearn how to listen to his parents; they’re just as disturbed by him (on a subtle level) as his classmates are, even though they’d never say it.
32. After they came back from Narnia the first time, Peter used to break into Professor Kirke’s liquor cabinet and get drunk. Susan and Edmund joined him a few times, and they used to sit around discussing the War and what they would have done or would be doing differently, if they were in charge. This ended when Mrs. Macready caught Peter and bawled him out for it.
33. All four of the Pevensies have carried out assassinations of various types (foreign dignitary, foreign leader, bandit lord, etc.) at various times. Plain brown arrows out of nowhere. Knives in the back. Poison in wine. Unfortunate falls during hunts. Lucy was best at it, but Peter preferred to do it when it had to be done.
34. Caspian was raised with the belief that he would grow up and rule Narnia, but he was trained and educated in everything except two things: ruling a country and commanding an army.
35. Peter, Susan, and Lucy can hold their liquor. Edmund can’t.
