I am this close to having to draw a map of the Narnian "world", considering that apparently I'm now on to creating countries on the other side of the continent, and I already have to write Golden Age fic with a character chart and a glossary up in separate Word documents.

(Original countries in the Narnian world: Lasci, Belgarion, Shoushan, Natare, Ransky, Resi, Masongnong, Edan, Vandalin, Anskettell, Lycoris, Marinel.)

And let's not even get into the fact that the "Golden Age" section of my character chart is divided into "Civilians", "Royal Guard", "Army of Narnia" (which includes the navy and the Aerial Corps at the moment), and "Foreigners." (Inluding not one, not two, but THREE of Peter's fiancees: numbers three (engagement broken by Peter), five (engagement broken by Susan), and seven (tried to kill Peter, killed by Peter. At the wedding).)

Narnia: not just a hobby, it is a way of life.

I blame the Prince Caspian hoyay for everything.

How dare Hollywood make a good movie! I had a life here! (Although actually...I think Narnia saved my sanity, so maybe I should be thanking Hollywood.)

Imagine! Instead of doing other stuff, here I was, rediscovering my first crush, writing. Specifically: sublimation. I dusted off my LJ and was reminded at how much fun flailing in caps lock is. DAMN YOU, NARNIA.

I could have spent this summer doing something useful, like getting a job! (I wasn't planning on getting a job anyway.) Or working on the original novel that broke my brain.

Is Belgarion meant to be a reference to David Eddings?

Probably subliminally, but Eddings never did anything for me; I don't think I ever made it through one of his books.

They were kinda... formulaic. But fun when I was thirteen.

Just wondered

Uhh... I think you can get a map of Narnia, as C.S.Lewis saw it.

It use to come with the books if you bought the set. Check google images.

Or just do a google image search under the terms "Narnia Map"

I have a map of Narnia as Lewis saw it -- I have the box set of the books. Only problem is I invented countries that Lewis didn't, and the map in my head only works for so long, and then I start going, "Huh, is Masongnong north or south of Anskettell? And how far away is it from Narnia?"

random passing pout in your general direction.

I hate you so much because of your meta. You've been forcing me to figure out what war Peter would have been involved if he'd gone for soldier in late '45. With details. and consulting my military geek mates. and finding out what weapons/style of fighting the enemy were using. (My Peter went into the army) and now I've discovered I can't put him in the SAS because it didn't reform til 1950 but re-formed as a direct result of the war I chucked him into.

Just so you know. I'm blaming you.

Oooh, what war? Because the European theatre of WWII was more or less over by then, wasn't it?

(My specialty, as far as military history goes, is U.S. Special Forces, mostly in the Middle East. This is because my MC in my original novel is a U.S. Army special forces officer, and said novel was military-based sci-fi, and all I did for eight months was research military history and military memoirs from WWII onwards, although focusing on current conflicts.)

My Peter was an RAF pilot in, I think, 1943.

Malaya - the communist thing labelled the Emergency that officially started in '48 but the british were already out there trying to keep a lid on it. Add in that the entire style of fighting was ambushes and counter-ambushes.

I figured he'd be about 18-19 at the end of the war, if he'd started the war at about fifteen. Finish school, join the army (you got into officer training faster as a public school boy who'd *finished* school), complete officer training - Sandhurst said it was 44 weeks but I'd have to check what it was around the end of the war. He'd have gone into some branch of the military automatically due to National Service not ending until '48 even if he hadn't joined up. And you got shipped out by regiment, not individuals, so even if he'd finished officer training in '46-7, there's a chance that '48 would've been his first :cough: battle.

There's a guarantee : from about...1900 onwards, the British Army have not been fighting *somewhere*. Whether it's obscure little peacekeeping missions or actual wars. There's several books that detail all the skirmishes and wars you've never heard of that we were involved in.

*nods* Same with the U.S., at least when we're talking special forces.

My rationale for him going for pilot training rather than infantry is that, despite his experience in Narnia, infantry now/in WWII is completely different from hand to hand sword-fighting, which is his specialty. Pilots are a little more independent, and there might be a better chance for promotion and advance. And he totally has the attitude for a fighter pilot, too.

But you can always try again. You fall of the horse, you get back up again and stuff like that.

Maybe you could use the map that already exist and try to expand it or something like that

Well, worst case scenario I can always draw blobs and label them with the names of the countries. I just need to know where everything is in relation to Narnia. (Hi, we're talking to the girl that forgot that, hey, islands exist besides the ones that Narnia conquered. Lycoris could totally be an island!)
