I just realized it would be pretty anachronistic for Edmund to say, "That's the sixty-four thousand dollar question, isn't it?" Uh, anachronistic by a lot. Also, British.

That was a good save, before I lost my entire flist and got mocked on LJ...

Funny how some things just make a cultural impression, isn't it? I grew up with that show.

We're going to mock you anyway. My current amusement is that my American beta occasionally needs to be told that 'er, no, that phrasing is correct for the period...'

Wonderful...

See, I gave up on actual phrasing not being anachronistic, especially when I'm writing in the Golden Age, because at that point I go, "It's a magical country! It's a magical country in another world! With talking animals! They're going to talk however they damn well please!"

heh. Golden age, you can be as anachronistic as you like (as long as you don't use the word 'googling') - my beta's problem was with phrases from the 1940s and 50s.

I believe the last major issue I got was "You can't tell Susan she's not going to get laid because it might be a national security threat" back in "Ere Yet We Loose the Legions." *bemused*

See, there's a reason I try not to write too much stuff set in England; I'd hate to do the research.

the advantages of living in the country and thus picking up details of the period via relatives and the media whether you want to or not. The amount of times I've face-palmed and screamed 'Rationing!' for any narnia fic set in England is not pretty.

Wait, like, as in, people don't put it in? Because dude...I know that, and I'm an American teenager. It's WWII. Shouldn't everyone know at least the basics? Such as the, oh, you know, war part? (Especially since they made such a point of putting it in the movie.)

Yep. Feel my pain. That and most don't seem to remember it went on til '53 and got *worse* post-war because of a) our massive debts and b) having to support all the countries that came back under Allied control until they could feed themselves again.

Cream cakes : SPECIAL TREAT.

New dresses for Susan that she didn't get in America : I THINK NOT.

Extra petticoats for a Lucy dress *not* made from old curtains from the attic : Are you effing kidding me?

Well, okay, I didn't know that part, but since they're dead post-'49...

I'm still back at the point where we had Susan whoring herself out in order to buy new clothes for Lucy...there's a reason I don't read fic in this fandom anymore.
