So according to Blue Blood, Mac is the perfect candidate for the NYPD! "Are you irritable and withdrawn? Do you have trouble sleeping, or maintaining relationships? You may be just crazy enough for the NYPD!"
In other words, I heart the book.
So, I gave Snafu another look over. And decided that maybe following the KISS principle was a good idea, seeing how hot on acronyms I am right now. However, I'm not doing a damn thing with the plot right now. I'll fix it on the re-write.
Basically, what's getting cut is the Kristen O'Malley plotline, David Crehan, Darry Manero, and the personal connection between the Crime Lab and Lynda Jarensky, as well as the blood all over Vinnie's house. Along with this, it means I won't be able to use the face cut-off/throat slit with a badge thing, at least not in Snafu. Right now, the murders are too flashy and I'm focusing on Danny's personal problems, instead of police procedural aspect. By simplifying the murders, that'll allow me to (hopefully) balance the crime and the characters.
Because of this up-coming metaphorical ax-murder, the murders getting cut will be mentioned, they just won't be the focus of the story. Snafu's heart is Danny and his Issues, of which we will see many more of. Well, his Tanglewood issues, anyway.
*facepalm* I'm going to take this time to admit I'm probably setting up for a sequel, tentatively titled Fubar. This is probably a very dumb thing to do, seeing as I have, like, originals and schoolwork and band/orchestra and stuff, but I am primarily a novel writer, and beyond that I am a series writer. I always write with a series, or at least a sequel, in mind, and I'm not going to do my fanfic any differently. Yes, people, this is the point where you go, in horror, :"...series?"
Well. Er. I'm not looking that far ahead, and of course the glory of a television fandom is that it's constantly evolving. However, besides Fubar, I have a brief idea for another story called Officer Down. These are not novel-length. I'd like them to be, but they won't end up being so. Say novella-length. Maybe 25,000 words.
Um. This is so I get kicked in the butt when I don't write, and also to give me a kick in the ass so that I will continue writing Snafu.
For those interested, the byline for Fubar reads: Aiden is caught in the robbery of her favorite coffeeshop, while Danny clashes with an abrasive detective. Yes, I know the uncanny resemblance to the projected finale, except that it's Aiden, not Mac. Fubar deals with Aiden to a greater extent than with Danny, and the alternative would be a rape-murder. She has to have issues; I'm not sure what ones.
Officer Down deals with Danny's Mafia connections and one of the CSIs ends up in the ER. I know who, I'm not saying.
*headdesk* I think I'm too optimistic on this part.
In other words, Upsetting the Status Quo, a follow-up to I Spy With My Little Eye, is up. OC/Mac sex up against a wall, anyone? (That would be the other Mac. The sane one.)
Also, deleted line of the day: "I love you. I think I want to marry you." "Danny, I didn't think you swung that way." (Danny and Stella, for those interested)
