LJ is quiet and it is freaking me out.
*twitches* Is everyone in transit today? Am I just not interesting? Is this a sign from the gods that I should be writing instead of faffing around on the Internet? (I have a grand total of ZERO words for Dust 8. I also have a suspicion that it may be a Jill POV, and involve food disputes, because hi, Dust 7 had drugs, crime, and prostitutes; Dust 8 should go back to more prosaic matters like FOOD. I have also not started my Yuletide; I thought I had two more days than I, uh, actually do. OH BEDLAM. Also, the fandom? Is not one I have written in before, and, well, this should be interesting. *sigh* Be Like Water: in progress. Voices: SHOOT ME OH MY GOD. "Must Be Tuesday": needs to be typed up and some context added so it's not put Peter and Edmund killing things and bitching about...everything. The banter here is kind of off the walls.)
Also, I am reading three different pieces of meta at once, and it's kind of killing my brain.
...screw the meta, I'm going back to watching all the Narnia battle scenes ever. (At this point in time, specifically LWW.) At least for the moment. OH LITTLE PETER AND EDMUND. SO YOUNG. SO INNOCENT. Man, they're jaded by the time they hit PC.
(On a sidenote, some of the meta I was reading was about always/already genderfuck. So. *flaps hands*)

Date: 2008-12-17 03:54 am (UTC)(It has just been so quiet today. I mean, I know it's Tuesday and a lot of schools are on break already and all that, but really? This quiet?)

Date: 2008-12-17 04:11 am (UTC)The physical differences in Peter and Edmund, particularly, from LWW to PC are quite striking. :)
Are they rationing? That many people camped in a small area has got to have impact on the local plants and game, though fish might be all right. Plus-are there any food taboos, like the Narnian version of kosher? Starve or disobey cultural beliefs? Eat and HATE the one who forced you into it? *glares*

Date: 2008-12-17 04:16 am (UTC)I want to go through LWW and PC and take notes, because ohmygod. The look on Peter's face when Oreius and the rhino turn around! Because this is the first time anyone dies for him; this is when he realizes that there are actually people out there who will die for him. And Edmund is just so! *flaps hands* Tiny. And young. They're all so young.
They are trying to ration. It is not working out well. Oooh, and food taboos, there should definitely be food taboos. (This should contrast well with the food porn in Dust 7: Peter eats roasted shark's head cooked in brandy and the deer Jill is hunting gets stolen by Yet Another Group of Refugees.) And the western woods have been nearly hunted out; not only have there been a couple thousand people hiding out there for the past five years -- people who have very little idea how to live off the land, thank you, civilization; you're oh so helpful -- but there are also the ferals, who tend to be the dominant predators in the area. It's not working out well. At all.

Date: 2008-12-17 04:22 am (UTC)Shark's head, wtf? What the hell kind of cookbook are YOU using? 0.0
Hmmm...if the game is scarce, then the predators that *do* survive there are apt to be very fierce...are they edible? I'm thinking let's have a cliff drive!
Are there any handy allies who might not have enough forces to put into the field to be effective, but who might be able to toss out a few haunches of something or other?

Date: 2008-12-17 04:26 am (UTC)Well, you're not going to have too many predators in a small area, and the dominant ones around Arn Abedin, the hippogriffs on Giantkiller Ridge, were killed off in Dust 5. And those ferals -- which are present all throughout the western wild -- have been going after the refugees because the refugees are taking their natural prey. Which is why the camps have a high mortality rate.

Date: 2008-12-17 05:56 am (UTC)my thesis proposal, it haunts me.
do talking beasts eat non-talking beasts of the same species? bats, crows, gorillas, chimpanzees, they have been known to cannibalize. would centaurs eat horse meat? would fauns eat goats?
i've spent half the day sleeping and half the day doing my stats take-home. i only have 4 subquestions left so now i'm giving myself extra fucking-around-on-the-internet time.

Date: 2008-12-17 04:38 am (UTC)I mean, they kill things and then have conversations like this:
Peter: Those two are still alive. So I know where to send my cleaning bill. And their heads. But not Coello's backpay, Aslan in the east.
Edmund: You owe Coello backpay?
Peter: Have you had a look at Narnia's treasury lately? Just about the only people I don't owe money to are you and Su.
Edmund: You owe Lu money?
Peter: I lost a bet.
