New personal canon!

Professor Kirke has a gambling problem, thus losing the house.

Papa Pevensie worked at Bletchley Park during the war. I am about ninety percent sure I can make a case for him going to America in the middle of the war to do intelligence work there, too, since as far as I can ascertain, there was joint British-American intelligence work in the U.S. (Also, clearly Edmund inherited it from somewhere.)

I...still have no idea how Mama Pevensie and Susan went to America, unless it was part of some kind of elaborate cover-up.

Not that any of this is going to come up any time soon, hopefully. Especially considering the fact that if anyone in Dust at all makes me learn cryptology, broken necks will result. Lucy can fix it later. Edmund, Susan, friggin' Eustace -- I'm looking at you. (One of these things is not like the others. Do not ask me why; I don't even know.)

DUST. BABY. COME TO MAMA. (Except, of course, the post-LWW fic is still in progress.)

It deals, in part, with an American mathematician working in Bletchley Park. So whether it actually happened or not, there's good fictional precedent.

Also, it's a great book, although admittedly not to everyone's tastes.

I have heard of it, and I've heard it's good.

ooops. Have I been a bad influence on you again? Mind you, it's not precisely inaccessible... Mind you, you can definitely make the case for him goign to America from there. Turing did.

Watch Enigma. You know you want to. it has permanently harassed and overtired Dougray Scott in. And more importantly, Jeremy Northam being too suave for words, geeky Kate Winslet and Matthew Mcfadyen being terribly noble-but-injured.

That's what the fandom brainshare is for, of course! The real question is WHY THE HELL BRING HALF THE FAMILY.

I will look it up!

Oh, seriously, the massive screwed-up-ness of the Pevensies just makes me want post-LWW fic more. ♥

Gambling problems. The one thing I don't think anything in this verse had yet. Sigh. Lead on, you crazy woman.

Well, it's not like Professor Kirke has actually shown up in the Warsverse, yet. Might get a mention in Dust, I suppose.

Maybe bringing Helen and Susan along was sort of a cover story after all? Travelling across oceans was still kind of a big deal not to be passed up, so maybe the Pevensies jumped at the rare chance to go to America on vacation, and provide convenient cover for Mr. Pevensie at the same time. Maybe Mr. Pevensie also wanted to give his wife a vacation as sort of a anniversary-type present to her.

I have no idea about Susan, though. Maybe there was just logistical problems taking three children along (possibly related to the military intelligence work thing) and, if they had to choose, the parents thought it logical to take the oldest available child. Peter had exams or whatever, so Susan was the next oldest, therefore she got picked.

That's just about the only thing I can think of -- only I think Papa Pevensie wouldn't have told his wife what they're doing. But if he's going as a code-breaker -- which would probably go along with the "lecture" bit that Lucy dropped in VotDT, if he was a university professor who got picked up for intelligence work -- then he'd never see his family.

*ponders* Not that this is ever going to be relevant...
