Dude. My love life, or lack thereof, should not be this interesting. After much consideration (meaning that I asked EVERYONE I KNOW, online and off), I am going for an official vote of Not Responding in regards to Bookstore Guy, but MEANWHILE, given the fact that I freaked out about this on Facebook, one of my friends from back home -- HS senior, two years younger, friend -- messaged me and started going on about how he doesn't understand why I don't consider myself worthy of attention from men, and why was I so surprised anyway?, since after all I'm smart and funny and beautiful, and this is going to be happening to me for the rest of my life.

Which, you know, are a bunch of statements I'm not going to touch with a ten foot pole, even if they're meant in a non-romantic sort of way. So I ended up making indiscriminate noises and making up an excuse to get off Facebook, because, dude, rumors aside, you know when this sort of thing would be nice? When I was ACTUALLY IN THE SAME STATE. At the very least I could have had a date to prom. *sulks briefly*

Firstly, Distant Young Man is right, but it IS an awkward thing to be told by anyone.

Maybe he's only got the balls to speak up when you're out of state, having (correctly) assessed that you'd either deck him or withdraw completely should he say such things to your face?

The "withdraw completely" is the more likely option. *sigh*
