*bounces excitedly* I ordered my letterman's jacket! It's pretty and it's navy blue with white leather sleeves and a music staff and a saxophone (alto, there was no bari) on the back, with my grad year and a bulldog on the front pockets. And my name and "Ellensburg," of course.

And I have been writing, and have vague ideas for a Halloween fic set sometime after Bloody Sunday. It has ghosts. Would ghosts seem amiss?

Wow, now Danny's really traumatized. He'd rather run up thirty-four flights of stairs than take the elevator.

More like suicidal? Ouch, that's... that's pretty damn desperate, honestly.

And Flack is so totally going to freak.

Flack freaking out is like... is like... a ... it's big and spectacular and wants to kill anything that crosses it, that's what. :) Hurrah writing. (I have written too, but not CSI NY. I need to know how the hell I was convinced to slash the OHL.)

I have written...about two paragraphs. Which begin "It was October by the time the lab had settled back down to something like a shadow of its former self," and ends, "Even Mac, the unflappable" I didn't finish that last sentence, which was the start of a new paragraph.

Smart boy, he is. Giant suspended deathbox. Well, with a suspect. I... I really want to know what happened. (unless I'm being dim and I've actually read it before.)

I wrote and posted a Stella/Mac scene from the aftermath, which mentioned some of what had happened, but I don't know how much was actually mentioned about What Happened. It was basically my interpretation on the "Aiden's going to die!" rumor. Danny gets show by a suspect inside the elevator, Aiden gets taken hostage, the suspect tries to kill Mac, Danny shoots him then passes out in a puddle of blood, the suspect cuts Aiden's throat and tries to run off before getting tackled by Flack, Aiden dies in Mac's arms, Danny goes into a coma and spends the rest of the book that way. *deep voice* This is...Bloody Sunday. Coming to a computer screen near you this November.

It will be a lot better than it sounds, I swear.

Yay ghosts. And heh; yay too on not finishing new-paragraph sentences. I do that a lot.

Well, I was in class, then the bell rang.

Ah yes. The War thing came out that way, except the opposite, and we don't have bells. (Prof came in, I figured I should probably pay attention, then I ended up applying principles of practice to the Lab of Dysfunction for the whole time. Go figure.)

Plus, I don't think I could write that scene without it seeming overblown or unreal. *sheepish* But yeah. If you don't see it, you don't know what happened - you're not going to see everything from the security cameras. They don't know what happened. They probably aren't going to know for a long time, or ever. (Danny was too busy getting shot to take notes). And there's that nagging feeling - if we hadn't moved to the new building, this never would have happened. If we'd gone to pick up Tom Mallory instead of sending Danny and Aiden, this wouldn't have happened. If, if, if. And for a very long time, Danny's close to death. Thus the coma.

Mac doesn't like comas. Stella likes them even less. She was in one, after all.

I imagine being unconscious is safer like that.

When half the Crime Lab ends up dead or in the hospital and the other half ends up suspended from duty for at least a month, thus shutting down the entire crime scene unit of the NYPD? Oh, hell yeah.

And even when he is coherent, he's not...particularly coherent. More along the lines of, "I was lookin' at the numbers, ya know, 'cause I wanted out of the friggin' box, and the next thing I know there's this pain in my chest. I don' even remember hearin' the bang. Aiden screamed, I think. I remember - fuck, I don't remember what happened. I got no fuckin' idea how the hell Mallory managed to sneak a gun past a coupla seasoned detectives like me an' Aid. The last thing I remember is blowin' Mallory away. I get him? Aid all right?"

In a nutshell. Not to mention, "You, get the fuck outta my crime scene." "Who's sayin' it's yours, huh? I don't see your name anywhere." "See those three letters on the vic's coat? C-S-I? It's my crime scene. Get your ass outta it; these are my people."

Flack is a mighty stubborn, and protective fella, and it serves all of CSI damn *well* that he is. In canon or out, there's the potential for a lot more disaster without him.

...I don't think he wakes up till the epilogue. At least I hope he doesn't.

Exactly. He's an interesting character - I don't think CBS uses him to his full potential, but they do fairly well with what they have. Without Flack...that's just a really weird thought. I can't see them getting rid of him, or him leaving willingly. The dynamic in the lab would completely change. A lot of people probably don't think so, but...well...

*nod* I mean, I think he was very much a "tacked on" character in the first place-- they hadn't quite established things proper in the crossover ep, and they're like, "aw, fuck, we need one a' them detective-thingamajobs" and hired Cahill, with what is, at first glance, a very bland, cookie-cutter kind of backstory.

The dynamic in the lab would completely change. A lot of people probably don't think so, but...well...

I agree, it would. They did try a few "spare" detectives, but none of them seemed to last (pity, I liked Thacker, really). But he's... well, I think I've mentioned this, how he's not the same kind of good-ole-boy that Tripp (Miami) or even Brass (Vegas) is. He's probably a bit closer in terms of temperment to Brass, but he's younger, and a little more... engaged, I guess, with the functions of the crimelab.

Exactly. Early on, he looks like just another New York detective - brash, big, and bold. Which he is, all of them. And then they started to work with him a little, and probably figured out, "hey, we can do this with him and it would be cool!"

Flack's really young to be a detective, no matter if you take Cahill's age or the guesstimated Flack age most people use. Especially a homicide detective. What I've noticed, before I stopped watching Miami and Vegas, is that he is more involved with the lab, personally and professionally. He takes interest in what they're doing, and he goes and helps out with the CSI stuff, to some extent. The other detectives...*shrugs* Not really all that memorable, at least for reasons that would make good main characters.
