One midterm down, four more and two papers to go. *breathes*

Agh, I should have started studying for this midterm earlier, considering that we've had the exact questions that will be on the test for the past week. Um, well, I hope my ability to make things up on the spot is still good? At least they're expected to be really short essays; there're only 25 minutes for each, since it's a 50 minute class.

I am cautiously considering trying to do an accelerated Greek or Latin class this summer at the University of Washington -- I can't do the intensive program, since they have it for, like, Ukrainian but neither Greek nor Latin, and even if they did, that ends after the start of the Tulane school year -- well, okay, three days before, but dude, I expect to be down here a week before then. I could look at another university, or there still a few summer programs who still have application deadlines in the near future as opposed to the recent past, but the UW's the closest to where I live, and I wouldn't have to pay airfare. And I'm a Washington state resident, so -- from what I can decipher of the website, it's cheaper, even for summer students.

Amusingly, my first reaction to that was, "But I've never lived in a big city alone before!" followed by, "...oh yeah. This one. New Orleans. And also Providence, that one time." And, uh, hi, Seattle is closer to Ellensburg than either New Orleans or Providence or Palo Alto.

Also, I really have to learn Greek. And Latin. And apparently German and French. And Old English and probably Old French and possibly every other language in the known world, except for Japanese.

Really, I probably should have stuck with English as a major.

After last night, I think women's bobsled is my new favorite Olympic sport. Also, Apolo Ohno! Japanese-American and a hometown boy. So is J.R. Celski, and Patrick Deneen (town thirty minutes from mine!).

All the teenage Olympians make me feel like I have accomplished nothing in twenty years on this earth.

Yeah, I think I'm giving up on studying for this midterm tonight. I'll skim the centaur articles tomorrow morning and hope that I can BS the midterm. (It's for Art and Mythology in Ancient Greece.)

I hope the forecast is lying about tomorrow's weather; I want a walk like breathing. *twitches* Except it's supposed to be raining all day. Damn you, New Orleans! *shakes fist*

I want to learn Greek. I shall have to go for Latin though, as, alas, the Greek teacher is the woman who taught me Byzantium.

I have heard bad things about the Intro Greek professor at Tulane, so I'm a little alarmed about that. Looks like the Intro Latin prof is a different woman, though, next semester. *thoughtful*

Latin is useful! I have partially learnt Latin several times! (I got off to a bad start when the Latin teacher spent most of her time helping the Drama teacher look for his stapler.)

I have to learn Latin. I also have to learn Greek. *sigh* I was shocked to come to Tulane and find that there were students here that had taken six or eight years of Latin already.

If you can do French or Spanish, Latin is a little easier...

I am going to do Latin when I am free during the course.

I can do German (badly) and Japanese (also badly). German I need to know, but is not very helpful for learning Latin...

from what i understand Cajun is very similar to Medieval French which i'm assuming is what you mean by Old French. Cajun has a benefit of having people who speak it regularly if you need practice. (this brought to you by everyone who is trying to get Cajun down on paper and/or recorded grabbing every person who studies medieval french quick as they can find them. evidently it's easier to go forward a few years then try to go backwards from modern.)
