*bursts into tears* My computer froze again, four times in quick succession. Have done System Restore, in the vague hope of fixing this fucking problem for a minimum of two weeks, and then I am getting a new computer. I cannot deal with this again. I just can't. This summer, new computer, probably still a Dell but I don't even care as long as fucking works consistently.

I'd say back everything up and then have IT reformat it for you.

It was off -- it usually freezes on start-up, after I've logged in but sometimes before. And I just did reformat it, like, a month ago. (Or restore to factory settings, rather.) I don't even know, man.

At least everything's still backed up from the last time.

Restoring from factory defaults is usually not as successful as a complete reformat reinstall. Try the reformat, it really may well solve your problem.
If it doesn't? It's definitively hardware and therefore the fault of the computer manufacturer.

I am kind of afraid to reformat it, because I cannot find clear instructions on how to do so. *sighs*

But I like Dells...also, Dell gives me discounts through my university.
