bedlamsbard: natasha romanoff from the black widow prelude comic (life (teatree_icons))

You know what would be nice? If I could somehow manage to stop spilling water and tea on my notes, because the ink I use runs. *sighs* At least I didn't lose any essential words this time. My notes for my Marsyas paper now look like this:

presence of Scythian significant departure from myth; presence w/ knife foreshadows Marsyas's fate and emphasizes intensity and stakes of contest. rather than merely[...]for a prize, he is playing for his life, stakes probably unrealized at the time of competiti challenge.

Marsyas is not playing at moment of defeat; pipe is r[...] up

Marsyas's legs in same position as Akropolis statue -- right outstretched, left bent and slightly behind
body face [sic] outwards, but he looks inwards

in contrast, smooth-faced Apollo is in profile, expression serene and characteristically classical

what is interesting is that the Scythian becomes the focal point of the relief -- looks outward, toward viewer

Drabbles for anyone that can guess the piece in question!

Two papers due Monday, the Marsyas one and then one on the Crusades, and my Spenser paper on Britomart and Radigund got moved back to Friday, and then my Ash paper is due on Wednesday, despite the fact that professors are not supposed to have anything due during the reading period (Wednesday and Thursday; finals start Friday), but the professor in question not only has tenure, he's on the tenure committee. *sighs*

My mother called me yesterday, sounding kind of worried, but the second thing she said after, "Is everything all right, Katchan?" was, "Did Daddy say something stupid again?" so that worked out.

Colloquium today on the Hindu Kush over the past three thousand years or so! Three historical speakers and one modern. Hopefully I (a) remember to go and (b) am able to find the room, because when my professor said "A.B. Freeman 131", he apparently forgot the fact that, uh, there is no building called A.B. Freeman, which is the name of the business school, and there are in fact two buildings for the business school, Goldring/Woldenberg I and Goldring/Woldenberg, uh, II. I think it's probably II and not I. *sighs*

Of course, the B-School is, like, the newest classroom-containing building on campus, and they are all state of the art, and all the liberal arts buildings are falling apart. Hmmph. There is a reason why they have all these visiting professors speaking somewhere that is not in one of the lib arts buildings. (The only one that they occasionally put non-alumni in is the art building, but that one's new-ish too, and also has an auditorium.)

Yesterday, the Byzantine Empire fell, and my professor ended the class with, "The Byzantime Empire, and thus the last remnants of the Roman Empire, fell in 1453. Thank you, this course is now over!" to applause.

You gotta love a professor with great oratory skills.

Does anyone have Love Soup? I've been eyeing it thoughtfully for a while now, but my library doesn't have it, so. *flaps hands*

*

Am watching Glee in the background (in lieu of, you know, working on my paper or writing Dust), and what the fuck just happened Jesus Christ? The music is good, but I cannot take this show seriously and I really hate some parts of it, and sometimes I really wish I could, but it is no Friday Night Lights. (That would be awesome, though.)

*

...I have a feeling I am going to end up not going to the speaker series, because I need to write this paper. *scowls* I'd get extra credit for the speakers, but the paper is an actual assignment.
