May. 5th, 2010 11:23 amThanks to taking Byzantine Civ, I now absolutely despise the Crusades and all Crusaders. EVEN RICHARD THE LIONHEART AND ELEANOR OF AQUITAINE.
This is sad, because Eleanor of Aquitaine is awesome.
But I really like the Byzantines, and I am tentatively considering pursuing the Byzantines further, because they are sort of classical but definitively medieval, and they are twisted and complex and so, so messed up, but then I come up against my sticking point: they kind of sucked at the whole military thing (see: Crusades) and my thing is military history, although I am not as focused on it now as I used to be. Fortunately, I have at least another year before I have to figure out what my honors thesis is, and about a semester before I have to figure out if I want to do 4+1 and in what department (am leaning towards the History Department rather than Classics or English).
Unfortunately, I am now supposed to be studying for my Medieval England final, so I don't know why I'm thinking about the Byzantines. Am goingt o concentrate on John, Edward I, and Edward II, I think, as I'm most confident in those out of the six offered. We have been expressly informed not to try and learn all six kings on the study guide (the others are Henry III, Edward III, and -- okay, there are seven, but Richard II and Henry IV are counted together). Also not to try and do the three Edwards, because we will get confused.
