Am back in the Evergreen State. *falls over* And yes, I managed to get everything boxed up and/or packed, although I didn't have time to go to FedEx this morning and have entrusted the boxes that are getting shipped to New York, since she's going to be here for another week and a half (she's staying through graduation). Gah, I remember when checking bags was free; now I shell out sixty bucks. This is the first time I've actually checked in at the airport in a while, though; usually I check in via the Internet and print my boarding pass, but I was running around like a lunatic and was still crazy enough to think I'd only have three bags (large suitcase, small suitcase, backpack), but I ended up with four (large purse, plus the other three). I hadn't packed my stuffed animals and I realized at the last minute that they were just sitting on my bed, so Gatorade the polar bear and Pierre the Mardi Gras rabbit got stuffed in the large suitcase, since they're the most flexible, Timon got shoved face down in one of the boxes that's going home (I'm sorry, Timon! It was the only choice!), and Simba, uh, went in my purse. His head stuck out. Is still sticking out, actually, as I am in Sea-Tac right now waiting for the shuttle. I feel really defensive about it! I keep feeling like people are judging me, and I want to shout, "I'm twenty! I'm a college student!" I don't think I've taken a stuffed animal as a carry-on since I was in elementary school, if then.

On the bright side, a guy just walked buy, saw Simba, and went, "Remember," in Rafiki-tones, and then added, "Simba!" So I feel less self-conscious now and more cheery.

Also I am on summer vacation! I am taking a two week break from reality, in which I hope to bake a lot, experiment with soup, and get everything I promised for Three Weeks for Dreamwidth done.

If it makes you feel better, I *emigrated* with a panda's head sticking out of my backpack. That would be the backpack, the ghettoblaster and the school trunk that I had to haul on and off a ferry, and on and off assorted guards' vans on trains (in the days when we still had guards' vans). It was then I learned that a) British Rail had a strict policy of only employing men with bad backs as guards - a job which included a luggage van - and b) said men got even more outraged when a slip of a girl was cheerfully going "No, I don't need you to lift it, can you just put a hand out to steady it?" as she swung a heavy trunk down a four-foot gap.

On the plus side, I only bought a coffee table a couple of years ago. The trunk did the biz for ages until I needed it more for storage than for table space!

PS: The panda's still in my bedroom, looking rather miffed at the addition of my husband, even though it's lived with him since the 20th century...
