I am given the impression that out of all my Narnia OCs, Mayor is the most popular, which surprises me a little bit because I hadn't expected it (out of Dust, I'd expected Elizar; out of my Narnia fic in general, I think my money was on Osumare Seaworth, not counting the Junior Pevensies). So! A meme-type thing, while I try and get myself psyched up for starting Dust 19. (I am bitter about Dust 18. Oh, so bitter; I shall probably ever again be terrified of starting new chapters.)

Original characters, Dust or Warsverse in general (no Junior Pevensies, please): give me a name, and I shall give you either a 100-word drabble or five facts about them. I will accept repeated characters, and possibly direct questions about them and/or their backgrounds, though nothing beyond Dust 18.

A scattering of characters off the top of my head includes: Mayor (May Your Life Be Long and Your Enemies Honorable, Dust), Elizar Confessor (Dust), Beka Confesor (Dust), Lior Confesor (Dust), Bencivenni Maresti (Dust), Vespasian of Glasswater (Dust), Osumare Seaworth (Golden Age), Fiorenza Paolucci (Golden Age), Louhanna (Golden Age), Sebi (Golden Age), Eian of Archenland (Dust).

I was LOVING Beka Confesor, so her, please!

Beka Confesor has never really thought about the fact that Elizar is capo del'strada; she knows her mum doesn't approve and she hears them arguing a lot, late at night when they both think she's asleep. Usually she is asleep, but the flat's small and she's a light sleeper, and after Mum finds out about Elizar, she spends night after night lying awake listening to them shout at each other, wincing when the shop door down below bangs open and slams shut, Elizar storming out. Sometimes he's back in the morning, sometimes he's not.

One morning after the usual fight, when Elizar hasn't come back yet, she goes out to deliver a package of pralines, fudge, and other assorted candies to Singlecurl on Dering Street. It's early, mist still curling through the low cobbled streets of the Black Pearl, and she makes a game out of it, looking down at the cobbles and skipping the cracked ones. She doesn't realize anyone's following her until a cat walks out in front of her, a prim tabby with a the tip of its ear missing, and says, "Hello."

"Hello," Beka says, uncertain. "Can I help you with something?"

"Oh, you can," purrs the cat, and then someone drops a bag over her head.

I certainly think Osumare's one of the most fascinating! In his own right (what made him decide to pledge to this little country with no navy and nations on all sides eyeing it up as a snack?) and as someone who managed to have a stable, pleasantly-ended relationship with Peter. Osumare, please!

1. Osumare Seaworth never returns to his hometown or reunites with his family on Terebinthia.

2. While ferrying Peter around on the Rising Sun during the Golden Age, Osumare was once arrested for piracy. Peter had to come bail him out, which did not go well for the original diplomatic purpose of the trick.

3. Osumare lost his virginity at fourteen to another sailor on the Bastard Queen, the first ship he served on. She was older than him, and would have been pretty if she hadn't been missing an eye, and afterwards she patted his cheek and told him he had a lot to learn.

4. Aslan makes Osumare nervous. He doesn't like land gods, not even the ones that are ostensibly on his side; he prefers the wild gods and goddesses of the sea, who are at least predictably unpredictable.

5. When people ask why Osumare swore to Narnia, he usually says he lost it bet. He didn't; that's a lie. He was just curious to see what would happen.

Fiorenza will never dispute that Guenveuer is the Queen of Cities; compared to the great domes of the Forum and the Sancta Sanctorum, the white city beneath Cair Paravel is nothing, a scattering of houses gathered around a fortified harbor. Put the palace itself is something else entirely, walls of white stone rising up over the green expanse of the valley to the west and the slipping blue waves of the sea to the east. She draws in a sharp breath of disbelief, because she's never seen anything like this before, never dreamed she would.

"She's beautiful, isn't she?" says the High King, coming up beside her.

She nods, but her attention is drawn from the white towers of Cair Paravel to the endless expanse of the blue sea. A bit of white sail, no larger than her thumbnail at this distance, is making its way towards the sheltered Narnian harbor.

It's the first time she's ever seen the sea.

Osumare Seaworth is made of awesome, but i'd really like to know more about the Royal Gaurd. why are most of them great cats? why are most of them women? what is it about Pevensies that makes them sigh the most?

1. The first member of the Royal Guard was a leopard named Louhanna. For the first few years, the Guard was a fairly loose organization that concentrated largely on Peter; because Louhanna was the founder, she managed to bully a lot of her friends and relatives into joining up. Eventually it became much more formalized -- one of the main factors was the attack in the caves of Angrisla, which took out half the Guard.

2. The Guard has always been a majority leopards and tigers. No one is really sure why this is, since neither of the two are pack animals; they would have expected it to be lions, but lions form a quiet minority in Narnia, having suffered heavily at the hands of the White Witch and never quite recovering.

3. There are a few canines in the Royal Guard; all of them are in Edmund's Guard, including the second. They are rather discriminated against. Lucy has a bear. No one knows how that happened. (In her defense, he was a baby! His parents were dead! One of her Guard had cubs and was producing milk!)

4. On alternate Fridays the Guard goes drinking and gambling, but only with each other.

5. Nuala, who was head of the Guard in Four Things Greater, once walked in on Edmund, two dryads, an oceanid, and a nymph, and promptly walked back out.

You know my love of the Junior Pevensies, but in Dust, I've quite liked Vespasian.

It's raining in Anvard.

Vespasian realizes this because he'd left the window open last night; he raises his head from his desk and regards the ink-smeared papers in front of him with some horror. Judging by the water pooling on his desk and the windowsill, it's been raining for quite a while now. He hauls himself out of his chair, flapping the papers to try and get the water off, and carries them over to his bed, then comes back to slam the window shut. A look at the mirror tells him there's ink smeared on his face; he scrubs at it, annoyed, and then goes to change into clothes that are appropriate for bowing and scraping at the feet of the King of Archenland.

After the Calormenes took over Narnia, Vespasian fled to Archenland for sanctuary and didn't return until Dust.

So its been a bit since I read your stuff..(is waiting for a few more chapters of Dust before doing a re-read) but is it bad that I can't remember who Mayor is particularly? .. but I think my favorite OC was actually a Edmund's daughter as a myth.. er mostly because I'm kinda in love with the idea of Edmund having a family, and playing with his girl and being stupidly and uncharacteristically silly and happy and the Mother of his child (again with the forgetting of the name) watching all of this and the crazy sibling interactions that occur when they are not, you know, being crazy and crazy and cunning, and making cooing noises at their niece.. uh, yeah *stops rambling*

Ooh! From Dust, my favorite OC is actually Elizar; he's so interesting because as Peter put it, he seems to be a nice guy and really adores his family and yet he's one of the most powerful and richest gangsters in Cair Paravel. I like Osumare Seaworth too, but we've gotten to know a bit more about him already.

P.S. So, there are pictures from the VDT poster at the Cannes Film Festival, and Edmund is holding what appears to be Rhindon. I remember you did that whole weapon analysis thing when pictures first came out, so, thoughts?

Well I do like Mayor .. but oddly enough I'm curious about that dog at the gate who recognized Peter but said nothing. And the crow a bit ....
