(aella_irene, I know I asked you this a couple of months ago, but I have since lost the e-mail.)

If someone is saying that they're skipping PE class, what would be the proper phrasing for it? Right now I have, “I went to Experiment House, remember? Nobody cared if I skived off gym.”

That sounds about right - that's what grandfather (who was raised by a British woman who survived the Blitz in London) says when he skivs off physio.

I went to public school, and we always called it PE, never gym; gym sounds very American to me. You might also consider "skived off games", which would include afternoon and weekend sports (not that, I imagine, Experiment House would have such horrid things!).

Huh, interesting. At my high school we always called it PE, but a lot of my friends at university call it gym, which always sounded more British to me, and which probably just proves that it's a good thing I know when to ask.
