*wearily* I need a better solution to, "OMG A VIRUS HELP" than panic followed by internet disconnection followed by more panic followed by system restore. Which at least appears to have worked.

My sympathies about your computer problems! I was in the same situation last Sunday, but ended up having to reformat my hard drive since I couldn't even get Windows to boot properly.

Since I don't know how to reformat my hard drive...this could only end in tears if I had to do that.

Well, my reaction is much the same as yours. After the futility and failures of Mcafee and Norton, I've been using Kapersky for the last year and it's been very good. It's expensive, but it was recommended. I've heard good things about Vipre and AVG as well. But... I really know squat.

I've got AVG Free right now -- in theory I could get McAfee free through my university, but I can never actually get it to download! But...*sighs*
