I have finally seen HP 7: Part One, which is in fact the first Harry Potter movie I have seen in theatres since 2002. Which is a damn long time. And it was LOVELY.

I hated, absolutely hated the sixth movie, so I was very wary about this one, but it was good! For one thing, there was actual lighting, that was nice.

Daniel Radcliffe grew up with a slightly oddly-shaped face, didn't he?

OH HERMIONE. Man, that scene with her obliviating her parents in the beginning, omg, that's just -- gah. Badass.

HARRY AND THE CUPBOARD. OH HARRY.

This is the first time we meet Bill in the movies, yeah? Interesting. There are a couple of things that I think wouldn't make much sense if one hasn't read the books -- Bill and Fleur being the obvious one, as I remember.

OH HEDWIG.

Facial recognition skills once again having slight problems; I kept mixing up Mr. Weasley, Lupin, and the bloke who Ron polyjuiced himself into.

The wedding! Adorable. Aside from the interruptions, obviously.

I actually have very little memory of them going to Grimmauld Place in the book. It has been a very long time, guys. OMG, Sirius's mobile.

I remember Snape as having a sharper face, huh. Oh, Draco, your hesitation! Is this the first time we see Narcissa? No, it can't be, but I've blocked out the entirety of the sixth movie.

That chase scene at the beginning was FIERCE. Awesome. (Clearly, I am not going in order. Deal with me, here.)

I really like polyjuiced!Hermione's pinstripe jacket in the Ministry.

The dancing Harry and Hermione scene has to be one of my favorite scenes in the whole movie. Actually, the movie did a really good job with leaving things unsaid and relying on the actors to carry the movie without having to talk to each other every two minutes -- I was quite surprised by how little they did talk, sometimes.

The snitch! Every couple of minutes, just there -- I don't remember if it did that in the book, but, you know, awesome.

THE SHADOW PUPPETS HOW AWESOME.

I seriously expected the movie to end after Ron killed the locket, so I spent the rest of the movie going, "And are we going to end now? Now? Now?" until it finally did. Worked for me, you know; they had to end it somewhere. I'm actually quite pleased they split it in two; they have NO EXCUSE to cut things out. And they did do a pretty good job of keeping things in the movie that were in the book, so far as I can tell: awesome.

Draco! Poor morally ambiguous Draco!

NEVILLE FOR THE WIN. That = awesome. Gosh, I hope we get him leading the underground Hogwarts resistance in Part 2. Except I can't remember if that actually happens, or if that was just in a fic. That's the problem; I've read some of the fic more than I've read the book, so I can't entirely remember what happened in the book as opposed to what happened in the fic. Unfortunately I do in fact remember the epilogue.

I also do not remember Dobby at ALL being in the book, except sort of vaguely, now that I think about it.

For some reason I really liked Bellatrix, which is a little disturbing; she never did anything for me before! Although now I kind of want to see the Black-Malfoy family drama that must be playing out in Malfoy Manor in between the lines of the movie.

I really liked all the little touches (or not so little in some cases) where you could tell that this really was a wizarding world under siege. It's hard to see that in the book, just because it really is so much Harry's story, but -- we get glimpses, and I think that's the idea. He's gone so much that he doesn't get to see everything that's going on in the world.

In short: WIN. WOULD WATCH AGAIN. CAN HAVE NEXT MOVIE NOW?

Gosh, it's so weird -- I grew up with the books, they were such a huge part of my life and in some ways they literally shaped it -- I would not have found fandom without those books (and actually, to be honest, the first movie), you know? So there's a lot of nostalgia. I loved those books so much. I still do. Man, I can't wait to reread them when I go home for break.

Also, the win? THE FIC HAS ALREADY BEEN WRITTEN I DO NOT NEED TO WAIT.
