LWW is a fucking beautiful, brilliant piece of film-making, and they have mastered that marvelous feat of showing, not telling. It's astonishing how little is actually said during the first fifteen minutes of the movie, but just how much actually comes across.

What, it's Christmas Eve, Father Christmas shows up in the movie, it's totally seasonal. Also, evidence of how long since the last time I watched it: I found my missing digital camera software installation CD in the DVD case, where I'd stashed it to keep it safe the last time I was in transit. In January. Of 2010.

*shakes head* Gods and Muses, that is a beautiful piece of film-making, and I think it's not out of line to say it's probably the best book-to-movie adaptation I've ever seen. Beats Harry Potter out of the water, to be sure. And the sense of wonder! And Tilda fucking Swinton, man; they use her in PC and VotDT, and you forget just how goddamn terrifying the White Witch is in LWW. She is a masterpiece.

Also, omg, they are so little! (And my dad asked if they actually were siblings, because apparently they do, in fact, look alike.)

Oh, yes, it's definitely the best of the three, and Tilda Swinton is INCREDIBLE.

It's been a long time since I watched that movie and just -- just watched it, instead of mining it for meta. It is really shockingly good.

They do look alike! We were remarking on this after Dawn Treader, saying that Georgie and Anna actually look enough alike to be sisters. It's very noticable with all the morphing going on.

And yes, it's totally Christmasy and I think I might watch it (again) today. Though I did just get the PC DVD so now I can watch deleted scenes and bonus features... Decisions, decisions.

Oh yes, LWW was the best film of the three and came closest to the story in the book itself.

I think it's my favorite Christmas movie, along with "Love Actually".

YES. Tilda Swinton is BRILLIANT. And when I saw her, I thought 'THIS IS WHAT SHE IS SUPPOSED TO BE' Lovely and remote like a glacier but who will come down on you like an AVALANCHE. And. *FLAILS*

It is DEFINITELY a Christmas movie (and yep I brought it along to my parents' house *giggles*)

And she's so smart, and her face is so wonderfully expressive -- the Stone Table scene takes on whole new levels of meaning. PC and VotDT have really diluted the effect, so going back to LWW is such a shock. A wonderful, wonderful, terrifying shock.

*nods vigorously* You can just SEE the calculation in her face, in tiny shifts of expression.

Yeah, LWW is very much 'HERE IS THE SCARIEST WITCH EVER' and in PC and VotDT we are dealing with her spirit, which is nowhere near as scary, but STILL, if she is that powerful without her physical body? NO WONDER.

Gods, the Stone Table scene -- you can tell that she thinks it's too easy, that there's something else at work, but she'll take advantage of the situation anyway...and all without her saying a single word to that effect. No wonder she had Narnia in thrall for a hundred years!

I hope they get just as good an actress for the Lady of the Green Kirtle, if they do end up doing SC.

Yes, for all his supposed meekness, she does, as you say, think something is VERY hinky- but if your enemy walks into your knife, why turn that down?
