bedlamsbard1. I am having another bout of defensiveness about not putting my fic up on the Archive of Our Own -- although this time, not because anyone's said anything to me personally. (In other words: please don't.) I obviously have nothing against people who have their fic up there, or even against people who evangelize about it, but there are reasons people don't put their own work up there, and it's not (always) because they have something against the AO3 or are fervent LJ advocates or fear that the AO3 and the OTW are linking to become the one fannish monolith to rule them all or the other well-known reasons.
The short version of why I don't put my fic up on the AO3 is because I have control issues, and I'm just not comfortable having it somewhere on the web where I don't at least have the illusion of feeling like I'm in control of it -- what my header is, what my content advisory is, how it's tagged, how it's formatted, and so on.
The long version includes the usual -- I prefer having my fic in one place (the only reason I mirror on both LJ and DW right now is because I have people who only read on LJ; I did at one point attempt to post all my fic to DW, but that didn't work out quite as well as I hope, and I'm not stringently anti-LJ or a DW evangelist, so I let it slide. It works for me), there's a lot of it and it would take so long to move over, right now it's to be designed to read on a journal platform like LJ or DW, I don't really like the way the AO3 looks (hey, I said this was subjective), etc., etc. (And the opportunity to subscribe doesn't do much for me: right now I don't read fic, and everyone whose fic I would read is on my DW circle, so.)

narniaexchange), but I don't want it there right now. I am not saying that I won't cave and put it up at some later point in time! But I don't want it there now, I don't care if it's logical or not, and the main point is: I don't want it there.

metafandom that got my back up because I kept reading subtext that probably wasn't there, I have been logicking out why I'm not comfortable putting my fic up on the AO3 ever since someone asked me that and this is the result of that.
2. I am now on Pinterest! If that is something other people are interested in. I get the sense that it is decidedly not fannish, which is fine, as I wanted somewhere to catalogue knitting patterns and recipes that aren't on Ravelry or Tasty Kitchen, and also pretty things that I stumble across on the Internet and want to keep track of.
3. I need to come up with some kind of schedule for myself now that I'm not in school. Because there are things I need to do this summer! Like study Latin, study for the GRE, read my honors thesis books, read Shakespeare (well, I don't have to do that one, but I want to). Only right now I'm not doing anything, just bumming around on the Internet, reading books, and baking things. (Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I need to, you know, do things. Also...go outside.)
4. My driveway is still flooded. (Our irrigation ditch overflowed. We got off easy, though -- there's really bad flood damage in other parts of the county. We're just not prepared to deal with flooding here! Which is funny considering it happens every year, though usually not this bad.)
5. I may or may not be working on something. If I was, I wouldn't talk about it, since I'm also on one of those "IF I TALK ABOUT IT IT WON'T GET DONE" streaks.
6. I am however also back on a sea shantey streak, so let that tell you what it may. (The Last Saskatchewan Pirate is so much fun, though -- that link's to a PotC vid, which doesn't quite work as half the fun of the song is that it's so very Canadian, but on the other hand, aww, PotC! The other half is that the song itself is SO MUCH FUN.)
7. For the favorite line from a song meme (which is actually from writer's block on LJ, but hey, whatever)! I could basically quote half of Sugarland's lyrics, because they really capture the flavor of small town life, but this one especially from Happy Ending:
the first and last breath don't matter
it's all the ones that are in-between
Although really, that entire verse. That entire song!
