I am in New Orleans! I have in fact been here since 8:30 this morning; I took a red-eye SEA-IAH and then went IAH-MSY, the way I usually do. Alaska was actually on the same plane as me both times, since she was flying in from Anchorage and flies the same route as me once she gets to Seattle. Chicago picked us up and brought us back to the university, where we met up with Texas. New York is stuck in NYC until Wednesday -- I suspect move-in was slightly less hectic than usual, because somewhere around 20% to 25% of our student body hails from the Northeast and they are, you know, slightly inconvenienced at the moment. (Oh, the irony when they arrive, check in, and are given their hurricane evacuation booklets. New Orleans: actually not the place to worry about that, at least this week.)

So far my brilliant plan of getting the majority of my textbooks from the library has been thwarted by my library not having my textbooks. *shakes fist* I've got two from the library; I bought two from the bookstore; I guess I'll get the rest from Amazon and/or the library when I find out what's what. BAH, TEXTBOOKS. THAT'S HOW I FEEL ABOUT THAT. (I definitely don't have as many as I've had in previous years, though -- my record stands at thirty-five for a single semester, and I don't think I'm even into the twenties this semester. Maybe low teens. Eh, we'll find out.)

Tomorrow I've got an info meeting to attend about the honors thesis, then I'll e-mail my major advisor(s) to set up a meet to make sure I've got all my ducks in a row so far as graduation reqs and grad school applications go. Plus, all that pesky "go to classes" stuff -- tomorrow I've got Intro to Greek, Greek Art & Archaeology, and Intro to Latin Literature. Also, hopefully my box of linens will arrive tomorrow, and the rest of my boxes should trickle in over the course of the next week.

Apropos of nothing: I really want to get shelves for my closet, since I've acquired way more clothes than I had last year (I'm in the same room) and I don't want to live out of my suitcase again, but I'm only here till May. Not sure it's worth it for just one year. Maybe I'll see how much they cost.

Despite the fact that Maryland is not here this year, I keep expecting her to walk in. I am actually very tense because I keep expecting her to walk in. I have already expounded upon her Crazy to Texas and Alaska, both of whom were aware of most of it because they also lived with her last year, but not ALL of it. And we're just like, "Holy shit, we have ROOM. We can PUT THINGS places and not get yelled at for it!" (Although Texas and I already had an altercation where I very firmly wanted the toilet paper under the sink and not under anyone's bed, the way it was last year. It is under the sink, because I went, "YOU CAN USE THE OTHER SIDE OF THE SINK I WILL PUT MY STUFF IN MY ROOM." *hands*)

It was very sad in the airport to look at the arrivals/departures board and see CANCELLED CANCELLED CANCELLED for New York, Newark, Boston, et al. All the news stations were tuned to it; I wasn't getting sound, just video, but still -- wow. I guess it's a little late for it now, but stay safe, y'all.

Haha, I got to my new school and I was like "ooh, it's so cool here." Which feels kind of weird to say, because it's still above 100 (at least today), but it's cooler than at home (103 vs. 106, today, but when I arrived I think the difference was more than 10 degrees).

I have 3 textbooks for my Latin class, which is at I-didn't-even-know-there-was-a-7:30-in-the-morning D: because that was the only time that worked for everybody and there are only 4 students in the class. Obviously I've been taking different classes than you have, because that's the greatest number of textbooks I've had to get for any class ever. The professor's working with me to come up with an alternative to memorizing lines, which is really good because my brain just can't memorize anything word-for-word.

If you did get shelves for your closet, you could use them for future closets you might have, right? I mean, you'll still have the same amount of clothes. Well, unless you become a nudist after you graduate, but that option doesn't seem very likely.

All of my suitemates are extroverts...I think they all went to parties last night. It's kind of weird for me. But at least they seem like good suitemates, even if they make no sense to me at all.

It's kind of funny: the Japanese class here is a bit more than a semester behind the Japanese class at my old school, and they're using the same book, so...but it's cool, I need the review.

But...good luck on the new semester! Hope you've got good professors and such, and don't get too stressed out.
