Jan. 13th, 2012 05:40 pmSo yesterday was my birthday! It went pretty much like every other day during break, except that I had a really fabulous dinner -- steak, crab legs, sashimi, salad, rice, and miso soup (presented in a bento box, because IDK why my mother has three bento boxes lying around, but why the hell not), and also cake. (It was good.)
aella_irene wrote me The Lady of the Marches, which is a (Warsverse) Narnia/Tortall/ASoIaF crossover where Kel gets thrown into Narnia. Y'all should go read it and leave her fabulous feedback.

*breathes into paper bag* Okay. Have just e-mailed my thesis advisor about not doing the thesis. I suspect it's coming off a bit, "I don't really want to do this, but the only other option is having a nervous breakdown, and I don't like that option."
And we're also back to "feeling trapped because grad school is the only option" because my mother doesn't quite comprehent "post-baccalaureate" as an option.
...and then I gave some serious thought to "living in cabin in the mountains for a season", because, well, we have a cabin in the mountains. (It has no electricity or running water. The haunted cabin in Nightfall is based on it, only we don't have a ghost.)

Date: 2012-01-14 04:52 am (UTC)And I promise there are alternatives to grad school, if that gets overwhelming (you know someone in Oregon who'll give you a nice unpaid museum internship, if nothing else, which is like living in a cabin in the mountains only better for your resume. *GRIN* Although the cabin in the mountains is darn tempting.)

Date: 2012-01-14 08:25 am (UTC)Hey, the cabin in the mountains doesn't have internet. Or electricity. And the outhouse doesn't even have a door on it. I bet Oregon can offer that, at least. (Also: oooh, museum.)

Date: 2012-01-14 08:16 pm (UTC)Happy Birthday.
And, yes, grad school is not the be all and end all (Even if some parents think so). Should you want to hang out, or go on a Grand Adventure, I am happy to assist, or plot. (You could come and live with a freelance writer/ social media coordinator and her two kittens in CA - when I move).

Date: 2012-01-16 08:15 pm (UTC)Heh, you should be careful about making offers like that. You might end up with a PM in May asking if you want a roommate. :)
