Ugh, I am working on my personal statement again -- uh, yeah, I know I took, like, a three month break from the last time I worked on it, and I think I started my application in October, I am a little behind the times, okay -- and I just don't know how to say anything. I have no idea what to say! Like, I know what I want to say (I like the fact that you have a Roman military archaeologist on staff and also you are in England, and that you have a program that concentrates specifically on Roman archaeology, please take me, I'm graduating with degrees in Classics and Medieval Studies and I can read Latin and...I can sort of read Greek), but I just have no idea how to say it. I also have no idea how to start out.

I've always thought I was a good writer: this is really upsetting to me to be blanking so hard on words, words are my friends.

Draft! Embrace the power! (Also, it is totally a thing to be great with words in one area of writing and then stumble when transferring to another.)

I drafted once! And now...I am trying again. I just don't know what it's supposed to look like!

You probably don't have sample letters to look at, huh? That's something of a barrier, I would imagine.

I don't know that it would be super-relevant, but I'd be happy to show you my personal statement if that'd help. Also, your school career people should have a subsection dedicated to helping you go to grad school, and they should at least be able to help you with the broad outline. And basically, you want to tell these people how super-great and dedicated you are and how you'd fit perfectly into their program.
