bedlamsbard: natasha romanoff from the black widow prelude comic (brothers (icondothat))

Today has been one of those days where:

a) I woke up at 5:30 and couldn't get back to sleep. Since I went to bed around 1:30-2:00 and probably fell asleep closer to 2:30 -- I am not one of those people who falls asleep quickly -- this means that I got about three hours of sleep. Joy.

b) This was not helped by the fact that I keep forgetting to breathe, which is, for the record, the most annoying thing ever. I mean, I do it automatically when I'm thinking about something else, but when I'm not thinking about something else... (This is probably a sign of stress, since that's edging back up; unsurprisingly, this also manages to make me even more stressed, because fuck you, universe.)

c) I ended up talking back to the books I was reading -- academic books, theoretically, though sometimes it seemed like possibly they were meant for a popular audience -- multiple times today. This is never a good sign.

d) I spent most of the afternoon and evening cooing, "My baaaaaaaabies," at various fictional characters. (I'm rewatching Harper's Island, which I love, so there was some cooing there even as characters are being horribly murdered left and right, and of course every time a Hobbit image or GIF shows up I'm useless for the next five minutes or so, and then the first chapter of Clockwork Princess went up, slowly, so there were some strung-out emotions there, though not on the same levels.)

e) Debating whether it's worth it to unearth Rivers of London from the bottom of my to read pile. It is second from the bottom, with eighteen other books on top of it. (Then I started a new pile, because pile one is now higher than my bed. It is not technically my to read pile, since I've read some of the books in it already, it is my "oh, shit, I have nowhere else to put these and I have a serious book-buying problem" pile.)

f) However, in good news, I can knit again! Not for very long periods of time, because I start to feel it in my left hand -- I can wear a brace on my right hand but not my left when I'm knitting; I suspect it might be different with circs, but my current WIPs are on DPNs. (My dwarf socks. One of these days I'll get around to taking pictures, and then you'll see that there's method to my madness, I swear. Suffice it to say that the pattern (Vilai by Cookie A) kind of reminds me of Thorin's belt buckle, and the colorway reminded me of Kili and Thorin. Look, I'm pretty sure that we've established that I've kind of gone a little Hobbit-crazy, here.)

g) Thanks to the braces, I finally understand the point of fingerless gloves, which are next up to knit when I finish the dwarf socks.

Hobbit art recs: Fili and Kili today, because I have a truly disturbing amount of Fili and Kili art stored on my computer, because as we've established, my precious dwarven baaaaaaaabies. (Which is to say, I could probably do a straight week of just Fili and Kili without even getting into shippy art (that'll come later). But we'll keep it to five today.)
