bedlamsbard: natasha romanoff from the black widow prelude comic (be mindful of the future (iconthology))

Today in terrible typos: I accidentally typed "Palpatine" instead of "Padme." Which wouldn't be so bad, except that I typed it in the middle of a makeout scene. Surprise, Obi-Wan!

...at least I caught it pretty quickly.

I am writing backstory for the QK 'verse, trying to fill in some of the bits from the year-long Occupation where Obi-Wan and Padme where trapped on Naboo. (Previous scene here.) So let's see, so far for Wake and its sequel I have written post-ESB OT!Obi-Wan (Wake 1-6), RotS!Obi-Wan (Wake 6, filtered through Anakin), TCW!Obi-Wan (Wake 7-10), and now TPM!Obi-Wan in the Gamble backstory. That's...a lot of Obi-Wan. That's more Obi-Wan than Anakin/Vader. More if I add in the AU!Obi-Wan, who I'm still puzzling over because I don't have canon to analyze for the thirteen years after it spins off from TPM. Although so far we've only seen him through other people's eyes, which is deliberate for the first few chapters of Gamble.

Right now, for Queen's Gamble, which is the working title for the sequel to Wake -- it takes up immediately afterwards, though I'm still trying to figure out if it's necessary to bring in the broadcast from the last scene of Wake -- I've got one chapter done and another one started; I'd like to have three chapters done before I start posting, but I'll probably settle for two. (For Dust I post each chapter as I go, but during Wake I was working at least a chapter in advance -- I was usually posting with about 6K done in the next chapter -- and it was really nice.) My wrists are acting up again, though, so who knows when that will be.

While I am here, here is a snippet from what I was writing today, which is Obi-Wan/Padme backstory set about seven months after the Battle of Naboo went rather differently (as a hasty aside, since the ages aren't actually mentioned in the movie canon, my tendency is to age Padme up two years and Obi-Wan down two from what the EU says):

It wasn’t the first time they had shared a room, but it was the first time that Padmé was aware of the weight of it. Obi-Wan, clearly uneasy, seemed to feel the same way, because he started to take the spare blankets out of the wardrobe and said, “I’ll sleep on the floor.”

“No,” Padmé said quickly. “You don’t have to do that. It’s – it’s a big bed.”

Obi-Wan froze, still holding the blankets, and Padmé realized what that had sounded like and felt the heat rush into her face.

“I don’t – I mean – I just meant that there’s plenty of space,” she stuttered. “Not – anything else. Unless you want to? Do you want to?”

“I’m not sure that’s a good idea,” Obi-Wan said after a moment.

It wasn’t a no.

Padmé, who had sat down on the bed to take her boots off, stood up and went over to him. He didn’t move, watching her with wide eyes, even when she took the blankets out of his arms and tossed them aside. “I think,” she said, and tried to ignore the way her hands were shaking slightly, “that you should share the bed with me. If you want to.”

“I want to,” he said. “But not if you don’t –”

Padmé folded her hands into the front of his shirt and pulled him down to kiss her. “I want to,” she said, as his hands came up to brace her elbows and she walked backwards towards the bed, towing Obi-Wan with her. “I really, truly want to.”
