Stuff I have looked up for Gambit so far include FDR's "day of infamy" speech, Pearl Harbor, the Blitz, the Occupation of France, 9/11, the Declaration of Independence, the original six ships of the U.S. Navy, war crimes, crimes against humanity, crimes against peace, South Carolina's declaration of independence (during the Civil War), the speed of light, the American Revolution, spies in WWII, treason, high treason, misprision of treason, maglev rail, the layout of the battlestar Galactica, the parts of a fighter jet, art nouveau jewelry, runaway slave takers, the Continental Congress, various parliaments, forms of address, and that's just the non-Star Wars stuff.

Ah, research. How did people do this before Wikipedia?

Nooo don't tell me you forgot the joy of spending hours in local libraries and dreaming of distant ones.

I have spent a lot of time in libraries! I have two degrees in the liberal arts, I have spent a lot of time in university libraries. But since I don't live near my local library, which is pretty small anyway, I've never done much writing in libraries. I do still have large piles of reference books from some of my older fandoms, though.

Makes sense! But yeah, libraries are my favourite places to hang around: there's enough company to feel at home, enough quiet to be able to work, and books and book enthusiasts close by so I can ask if I need anything. I still do it, even if I have Wikis on my phone handy.

Living in libraries, dodging the closing librarian and sometimes getting forgotten about in the library and getting locked in.

What? It's not like I've never done that.

Fortunately the closing times for my university libraries were either somewhere around 3 am (Tulane) or "never" (Leicester), but I generally don't even do academic work in the library.

But yes, libraries. Good.
