Apr. 6th, 2017 01:20 pmLJ -- at this point I'm not going to do anything except turn off the crosspost button; I've been mostly over here for the past eight years and agreeing to something legally binding in a language I don't read gets my hackles up, so my instinct is just to let it wither away. Also I'm too tired to do anything else right now.

Date: 2017-07-04 02:31 am (UTC)Anyway, I recently found that somebody wrote an easy work around so you can avoid personally agreeing to the TOS on LJ. (Not that it really changes anything... They're going to do what they want with our data. It's just the idea of "consenting" is maddening. Especially since the legally binding TOS is written in Russian - they explicitly say the English translation is not legally binding and that only the original Russian is. O.o How can one agree to something in a language they cannot read? Especially just to delete an account? Not agreeing to it, at least, made me feel a little better.)
It's a Chrome Extension that is able to bypass the pop-up because the code is enforced client-side, not server-side, so it's easily deactivated in your browser. https://blog.kamens.us/2017/04/10/how-to-delete-your-livejournal-account/ As written, it gets you to the account status page so you can delete your account. It is easy enough to modify if you also need to claim your LJ OpenID first or if someone needs to transfer their account. (I wrote out brief instructions on how to do it in a public post on my journal.)
What happened to LJ is just awful. :( For years it was a sanctuary and now I just feel violated.
