Feb. 19th, 2019 09:11 pmWell, it's supposed to rain in Atlanta for the next week straight, so of course this is when my ceiling springs a leak. It seems to have only been dripping (and only a little bit) during the period of the strongest rain earlier this afternoon, which was when I walked into my bedroom (of course it's my bedroom) to get my phone and discovered it; it hasn't been dripping since. I called my landlord (who's out of town), who called a repair person, who came a few hours later to look at it and said that unfortunately he can't fix it until it stops raining. He passed this onto my landlord, who texted me to tell me that he will fix it on Thursday or Friday. (The repair guy said Wednesday. I think my landlord is hoping he can fix it himself once he's back in town.) I'm extremely AAAAAAHHHHHH right now, since even though it's not currently dripping it could start again at any time. Did I mention it's in my bedroom? Yes. It's also right next to my desk and the place where I had a lot of (framed or in plastic) art leaning up against the wall, which again: AAAAAAAHHHH. The art has been moved, my computer has been moved, I am still extremely AAAAAAHHHHHH but can't do anything but wait for someone to fix it. I mean...it's not currently dripping. Hopefully if it's not raining hard it won't drip? I am not very happy at the moment.

Date: 2019-02-20 03:17 am (UTC)Her apartment building was built in 1820 though. So like.
Oh also it recurred like four times and she had to haul everything out of her bedroom every time, and it sucked, and then after it was all finally fixed she came home to find her living room full of water and a bunch of shit damaged .... on a bright sunny day that had had no rain... and it turns out! her neighbor! had had a garden hose they'd accidentally left on at the tap but off at the handle, and it had exploded in an apparently precision-aimed jet of water straight into her second-story living room window for like two hours before they discovered it!!! it was freakish!!!!!
Not that this is in any way helpful to you but I just thought I would relate this absolutely bonkers tale of woe that I had completely blocked from my memory.
The neighbor paid a bunch for repairs and stuff, but it took like, a day for them to mutually figure out what had happened and in the meantime she was like
WHAT
THE ACTUAL
FUCK
so that was pretty wild.
Uh my point is that probably won't happen to you, and honestly they'll probably fix it right the first time, and so I hope nothing gets damaged. Put a bucket there maybe? So that you'll hear it if it starts up again. But if it does start up again and the noise bothers you stick a washcloth in there so it doesn't splatter and is quieter.
Uh I deal with a lot of roof leaks. But not usually in my house, usually in my yurt. They suck, and I am sorry and I hope it doesn't drip any more but when they go look it's a super obvious thing they can easily fix, and do so. <3

Date: 2019-02-20 03:56 am (UTC)YIKES THOSE ARE NOT FUN STORIES.
I've got a big mixing bowl down where I think the leak was; if I need to I can move into the other bedroom (since when my last housemate moved out she left her bed and mattress there; it's currently my cosplay work room). SIGH I WANT IT TO BE FIXED.
