I'd say "truth" except Dreamwidth improved comment previews with the most recent code push, and there's an opt-in beta for much much better comment pages on mobile as of, iirc, the code push before that
But that's not a major overhaul that complete reduces functionality! (Which is my actual issue with the Tumblr update, not aesthetics -- it broke something that I fundamentally depend on because I use one specific function in a weird and really unusual way.)
Yeah, they broke -- I don't know the technical term, but the ability to have a page 1/page 2/page 77 as a static link on likes and dashboard. It's not an endless scroll since there are still separate pages, but you can't keep, for example, page 83 of your likes from three years ago anymore.
At any given moment I used to have 6-8 pages of Tumblr likes open for various reasons (among other things, I use them to track episode rewatches) and I had to close them all because they reverted back to page one. This is the fundamental way I actually use Tumblr and just. ugh.
(I think they did this once before and then changed it again a little bit later, but I don't trust them.)
Bits of xkit are currently broken too, which is less than useful, and the dash is showing a shockingly small number of posts. not to mention like...the aesthetics.
I don't track likes, but I depended on the static page links to figure out where I am in my dashboard, and this whole "the next button shows you new/older stuff but it's all still the same page!" nonsense is just ARGH ARGH ARGH ARGH. Especially since they're chucking in random older "since you've been gone" posts to further unmoor us all from the concept of linear time. *headdesk*
This broke something that I depend on for fundamental functionality in Tumblr and gave me a panic attack as a result. (I use my likes to track episode rewatches and for other reasons, so having that ability just vanish is genuinely distressing.)
This is just very WHY. WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT. Which is similar to my Ravelry reaction except that affected me less since I only use Rav to keep track of projects these days.
