Some of you, upon seeing this pattern, will think, "Oh, Gryffindor! How awesome!"

Some of you, being me, look at that pattern and think, "Oh, Narnia! How awesome!"

I am going to teach myself Fair Isle just to knit that. I will have alter the pattern a bit, of course, so that it is a gold lion on a red background. (In which the movies deviated from the books, but OH WELL. Gold lion on red: so much cooler than red lion on green. Christmas colors what?) I have Cascade 220 wool in red and gold for this. (Okay, they actually have different names, but you know what I mean.)

Also, pictures of the scarf I made out of Noro Kureyon 212B )

I'm making another scarf out of Noro Silk Garden, for my grandmother, and oh my god Noro Silk Garden. I may be spoiled for ordinary yarn after this.

Oh my God, Noro Kureyon. *entranced* It's just so pretty! (I have color 212, BTW.)

GUYS I HAVE FINISHED MY HAT.

I fondly call it my Edmund Pevensie cap. )

And...I'll just copy my Ravelry post about it:

After seeing The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, I wanted to knit something – anything! And barring a scarf, the closest thing was the cap Edmund is wearing in England. I used the Headline News - Cabled Newsboy Cap from Stitch ‘n’ Bitch Nation as a guideline and did everything except cables; I did the body of the cap in stockinette instead. The cap came out a little big for me, even with my hair in a ponytail; I might try running elastic through the brim to make it tighter. I didn’t have any plastic mesh for the brim, so I used cardboard instead – specifically, the piece of cardboard stuck in calendars to keep them flat, cut down to size.

Now what will I knit while I'm laboring over my Susan fanmix?

(Ha, I should probably mention my hat is 100% wool. Very useful for New Orleans in August, yes? *dry*)

It is sunny and warm. Frankly, I find this shocking, considering the fact that the past few days I've been having to wear jeans (normal summer wear, although I shaved my legs in case I want to wear shorts; let me just say that my legs are so pale they're probably reflective) and a sweatshirt to stay warm. Although, you know, my house is always freezing, but the fact I have my windows open in order to make it not freezing is something.

Also, I'm having dreams about sleeping through my first college class ever, and given the fact that it's June and I'm still in Ellensburg...I may be a little anxious. And I think I'm getting too much sleep; last night I went to bed at 12:30 and woke up this morning at 11:30. FOR SHAME, BEDLAM. FOR SHAME. WHAT THE HELL.

I am waiting for my knitting needles to arrive in the mail so I can finish the hat I'm knitting and start on, uh, Edmund's newsboy cap from Prince Caspian. *facepalm* Hey, I have the yarn, I will have the needles, I have a pattern I can alter (my pattern's for a cabled newsboy cap, but I don't want cables. Also, I can't cable), and I have the strong will of the fannishly obsessed! Together we shall conquer! Anyway, even if I fall out of love with the fandom (please no!), at least I'll have a cute hat.

Ahem. Still working on fic. Peter is...very young. And inexperienced. And, currently, completely screwed. This is like writing LWW Peter, not PC Caspian; there are fifteen missing years of experience! It makes a difference. I like it. Although when I started out writing this I thought they were older than they actually are, so I've got some character continuity errors I have to go back and fix, maybe; Edmund's a little too confident in command for a scared fourteen-year-old kid, even a scared fourteen-year-old king, especially compared to how Peter's acting at the same time.
bedlamsbard: natasha romanoff from the black widow prelude comic (marching band '03)
I'm getting really sick of this getting up early thing, and it's nowhere near as early as I'm going to have to get up when school starts. Of course, I probably won't be going to bed at two in the morning then, so that might help.

Yesterday I went up to the high school at nine to help my band director pick out pep band music for the coming year, along with some of the other seniors -- two of the songs we're playing are "Carry On My Wayward Son" and The Cantina Song from ANH. Rock. On.

Yesterday was also the march from hell -- Radio Hill, which basically means hills, hills, hills forever! Playing. We go through the fairgrounds, too, but not with cadences, since a lot of the horses are already there and they tend to spook when a band goes through with the drumline really wailing. Radio Hill is also the longest march we do.

This morning I got up at six-thirty, showered, and went to the high school in full uniform for the fall sports senior picture, which goes on the poster they put all around town telling when and where all the games are. They have yet to put the band concerts on it. *rolls eyes*

Bulldog Day today, so I went down up to the high school again to pick up my schedule, pay my fees, pick up my yearbook, and get my parking permit -- this year we have senior parking! Rock. Finally, senior perks. (With the old high school, we had a bunch of senior perks, but that went out when we moved into the new high school. It's cool that we get senior stuff just as I'm a senior.) Saw my friends, glared at That Bitch Mila -- seriously, I refuse to talk to her, I refuse to look at her, and I refuse to acknowledge her existence in any way except to bitch about her self-righteousness bitchiness. At least have the balls to tell me what the hell your problem with me is, bitch; I'm only going to apologize for something I know nothing about so many times and they're all used up, bitch -- went out for ice cream with a couple of my friends that I haven't seen all summer.

Went back to typing up concept writing for "A Long Time Gone" -- what's typed is about 6300 words, but I've got at least that much still in my notebook waiting to be typed. I think I may have also gotten into the actual meat of the writing part, because I'm hitting a lot of things I wanted to cover: podracing, Force choking, and precognitive nightmares. And I think this one might be a straight Anakin POV, too, even though I was hoping for more Obi-Wan. I've got some concept writing for the third story -- God help me, fucking Star Wars, man, is there a law that says things have to come in threes? -- and have the vaguely horrifying realization that some of the music on the What is Lost/A Long Time Gone soundtrack is actually more related to the third story. Again. God help me. I will not speak of it, though, because it is Top Secret. (follows canon more or less, though. vaguely.) (also, I think writing it is going to break my heart.)

I really need to get back to my novel. At least I have a broad plot arc, thank you God, at least I have a broad plot arc and main characters. That's what I keep telling myself.

Dude, the DVD commentary thing is really fun. *bounces excitedly*

I also need to buy size 6 16" circs. I think I'm going to make an HP scarf.

For some reason, I've cued my brain to react to U2's "Where The Streets Have No Name" as CSI:NY's opening theme instead of The Who's "Baba O'Riley." Yeah, I don't know why either.

I think the SW stories might actually be a trilogy. Crap. Which is to say -- "What is Lost", "A Long Time Gone", and what I'm gradually getting resigned to as the as yet unnamed third story in the series, taking place during the timeline of the original trilogy. Well, it's Star Wars. Trilogies are traditional.

I have an overarching plot for the Spaceforce novel. Oh, thank God. And I think it makes more sense than what I was working off of, anyway -- it'll just have one POV instead of two completely unrelated ones, I think. Which makes me sad, because no more Lannister barfights, but it'll make the story a lot more focused. The main problem is that it won't have the story that's covered in And Your Friends Which Are No More, so I have to figure out a good way to introduce Berin Sunstark and the Vira.

Oh my God, Farscape went there.

Most awesome scarf pattern EVER. Next up on my list of things to knit now that I've finished David's skull-and-crossbones illusion scarf. I might try doing a PoA style scarf afterwards -- I went to Wal-Mart in Yakima today and picked up the yarn I usually use (Carron Simply Soft -- 100% acrylic, but it's soft and cheap and easy to work with) in sage and gray. Sage for the Dark Mark scarf, gray if I decide to do a movie!Ravenclaw or Slytherin scarf later. I think I also might spring for pair of circs sometime -- I have one, but they're the wrong size.

Speaking of which, David better remember he commissioned a scarf from me, because I want the money. I still need to block the scarf and add fringe, though, and I probably won't see him until the school year actually starts.

I think I'm taking Duke, Carolina, and Boston College off my prospective college list and putting Washington and Lee back on. Duke doesn't have my major and Carolina's really hard to get into as an out-of-state student, plus I think I'm more interested in its grad program than its undergrad. And then I looked at America's Best Colleges and realized that all the schools I'm applying to, lib arts and universities, are in the top fifty. One of them is the top liberal arts college in the country. I am so screwed.

Still can't write an application essay. *head.desk* Maybe I'll try the Rodeo Parade as the next subject! I've tried Solo Ensemble, television, and archaeology so far, and I'm afraid to write about writing because...it's hard for me to write about writing, and I just end up sounding starry-eyed.

Went to Borders in Yakima today and almost bought a CD, but backed out at the last minute. It was $10! I had a 20% off coupon! I'm the most indecisive person in the world, I swear to God. I think. I waved it off as trying to save up for the SGA and SPN DVDs.

Writers, check [livejournal.com profile] howwedoit out! It could be pretty interesting.

Found a story I started at the beginning of 2007/end of 2006 -- it's a Clone Wars era Star Wars story and I have maybe a third to half of it done (although since we're talking me here, that means nothing), but I'm not really sure where to go from where I ended. I really like it, though! It could be the story in which Mace Windu stopped trusting Anakin Skywalker between AotC and RotS.

I really want stories where Dooku and Anakin have to work together to save Obi-Wan. I have now realized I have two stories where this happens, sort of.

CSI:NY doesn't do as much for me as it used to. *sigh*

Still on my rereadthrough of HP. Should be done within a couple days -- I'm on DH now, so there should be commentary soon, although I'm kind of wishing I'd taken notes as I read. *sigh*

Haven't done any summer reading for school. *huge eyes* Whoops. Fortunately, I didn't have to do it, I just now have to do it during the actual school year.

I have one [livejournal.com profile] summer_bits story done, and I haven't started my [livejournal.com profile] timerevised story yet. Or my [livejournal.com profile] dvd_commentary yet, but that's not due till October.

I kind of want to do a commentary on "What is Lost" -- I'll probably end up doing it for myself once I finish typing up the "A Long Time Gone" concept writing, but would anyone be interested in reading it if I posted it? Um, if you made it all the way through these rambles to this particular one?
