beyond the wide world's end

I did my job shadow for FCI today, up at Central...with the AFROTC Detachment, there. Which mostly involved me following around various cadre members and soaking up information and sadly coming to the conclusion that I could not phrase various research questions in such a way that they would actually make sense outside of context, but also involved me talking to cadets.

Cadet 1: So, why are you interested in the Air Force?
Me: Oh...you know, actually, probably judicious watching of Stargate.
Cadet 2: I LOVE Stargate! I totally want to get into deep space radar telemetry! *goofy grin*
Me: *dies*

Cadet 3: So, do you know Stargate?
Me: Yes.
Cadet 3: Daniel Jackson is totally my hero. It's probably the reason I'm a language major. I'm also learning Dutch.
Me: *dies again*

You know, I wonder how many people the Air Force has actually recruited by use of Stargate. Because, seriously...now that would be interesting.

I'm getting back into SG-1 (hi, yeah, I know my luck, I get into it as soon as the show goes off the air), but the problem is the only SG-1 fic I've been reading for the past, oh, two years or so is synecdochic's, so I've got a very specific view of the characters. And I'm also in one of those moods where reading SGA just pisses me off right now, and I have no idea why.

Okay, well, I know a little bit why. All the rabid SGA fans -- that is to say, my favorite writers ever -- seem to really have it out for Cam Mitchell, who I have been brainwashed into thinking is an adorable little puppy dog. (Hi, you want evidence? He shows up in disguise not once but twice in my original novel. Cam Lorne. Beau Lorne. Both Cam Mitchell in disguise.) *cough* Anyway, I keep trying to read SGA fic and Cam Mitchell keeps randomly showing up being an asshole, which doesn't compute in my brain, so it's...not working.

*wistful* I want Cam Mitchell in Atlantis being adorable.

(Yeah, and just try finding Cam icons. It's not easy. Ninety percent of SG-1 icons are from s1-8 and the other eight percent are Daniel/Vala or Sam/Vala, leaving poor Cam very hard to find.)

Also, for some reason Jack is just annoying me. On the other hand, I seem to like Sam again. (One of these days I'll explain my problem with female characters. That day shall not be today.)

Hi, and to make it worse, I only have s1 and s2 on DVD, not s9 and s10. Oh, alas. Although ABC does have it on Saturday nights, which totally means that I got to see "Memento Mori", which starred Cam on a motorbike and handcuffed to a bed without his pants. Who needs fanfic?
