Why yes I did get up at seven to do my laundry, because frankly I feel having clothes to wear would probably be a good thing. (I actually do have clothes; it's just that I'm out of jeans and the only bra I have left is bright green and I have this feeling it will be Seen under the only shirt I have that would go with the skirts that I haven't worn yet.)

This is why I'm up. That and I'm still reading about the friggin' Persian wars, which are actually fascinating -- as far as I have a specialization in anything, my specialization is in military history -- but I'd rather be working on Dust. Or the crackfic Lass and I have been writing in comments all over the place. (Narnia/Stardust! Narnia/Merlin! Peter/Arthur, because you can never have too many arrogant, deadly, blond royals in one place.)

I realize it is now eight, but I did in fact get up at seven. And now I should see what I can put together out of my remaining clean clothes and go to breakfast. *sigh* Because I'm not free till 12:15.

In case y'all hear my hysterical laughter and "oh my God, you're all fucking idiots" (no, seriously, I'm talking to the computer, it's that bad) coming from the general direction of the Crescent City, don't worry! It's just me watching Merlin, which is actually really, really making me want to write Narnia.

I know what's bothering me about Merlin! Besides the horrendously bad CGI, the complete lack of a decent fight choreographer or military advisor (NARNIA YOU HAVE GIVEN ME RIDICULOUSLY HIGH STANDARDS), and the complete mutilation of the Arthurian mythos. That's all incidental.

Not enough snark.

I mean, there's a fair amount of snark, but for some reason I keep expecting more. I also want more Merlin and Arthur interaction, but whatever, I'm sure that will come in time.

My other problem: there's a quote from one of the Keladry books, I think Squire, where Kel asks Raoul what he and Alanna and Jonathan and Gary were like as pages and squires. And he says, "Like puppies in a basket )

Apropos of nothing, for some reason, I was absolutely convinced throughout the entire first episode that it was going to end with Arthur (and Merlin in tow) being spirited off to the middle of nowhere, and that the entire first season was going to be them traipsing around Britain (Albion, whatever) trying to get back to Camelot, and maybe gathering a ragged crew of wannabe knights along the way that would later form the core of the Knights of the Round Table. And Arthur and Merlin would grow as people and have an unbreakable bond! And Arthur would be able to survive in the rough, and also to understand the ordinary people of Albion! And then in the finale they'd make it back to Camelot and have to save Uther's life somehow, and then Arthur is thrown in prison because no one thinks he's really Prince Arthur, and then he breaks out and saves Uther's life. And then season two would be about Arthur readjusting to court life, and more adventures. I mean, seriously, words cannot contain how friggin' confused I was at the end of Ep. 1 because I was so convinced that that was what was going to happen. I mean, a vague pretense at the myth!

OH LOOK MAP TROUBLES AGAIN.

Seriously, one of these days I just need to sit down and draw my own map of Narnia. Why the hell is my Lantern Waste pretty far south, when everyone else's Lantern Waste is in the far north? I do not understand why my brain puts Lantern Waste either in the far southwest or in the midwest (of, uh, Narnia. Not the U.S.), but everyone else is all, "Far northwest! Far corner of Narnia!" and I am all, "NO IT IS IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION YOU IDIOTS." Also, one of these days I have to go back through the rest of my fic and note all the locations I've named that aren't canon by someone's map.

Of course, I'd have to do three different maps, to account for how Narnia changes between the Golden Age and PC, and PC and LB/Dust. And I probably won't change location names (even if the Telmarines totally would have changed them), if only because Lewis didn't and I don't want to confuse people that much.

Good thing Tirian knows this shit, at least. *flaps hands* Recent Narnian history, distant Narnian history, by the end of this story we're going to have an accounting of everything that happened from the end of PC to the beginning of Dust as far as the Telmarine kings go -- Rilian, kind of a tyrant; Tirian, smart enough not to tell Peter and/or Eustace that straight-out. We're also hearing about Absalian the Blind, Rilian's grandson, who was one of the best kings in Telmarine Narnian history.
