bedlamsbard: natasha romanoff from the black widow prelude comic (happiness (mata090680))
I heart Dust, man. I wrote about 1.5K while watching Clue and The Departed with my friends, and yay, we are getting somewhere now! I wanted to work Crackclaw in again and now he's there, complete with creepiness. Eating corpses' eyeballs for the win!

As we have established, my Narnians are creepy.

Okay, I'm doing the sleep thing now, which means moving the books I bought at Borders off the bed so I can, you know, sleep.

So! I spent somewhere around five hours at Borders yesterday -- my friend Lesley and I walked there and back, although, you know, we could have taken the streetcar, but it's nice six mile round trip walk, which isn't too bad, although we got back and my roommate's reaction (we ran into her at Borders) was something along the lines of, "You walked back along St. Charles after dark? THAT IS SO CREEPY" -- and came away with three books. Then I frantically pimped Narnia at people and we watched movies that were not Narnia.

[livejournal.com profile] redangel618, did you call me yesterday?

I am reading Machiavelli for class again. I also appear to be going through and underlining stuff, and my brain is quietly compartmentalizing certain things as "Golden Age Narnia" and "Dust-era Calormen-ruled Narnia."

In the first category:
*You should never let things get out of hand in order to avoid war. You don't avoid such a war, you merely postpone it, to your own disadvantage.

*Whenever the enemies of a new state have occasion to attack it, they do so furiously, while its friends come only languidly to its defense, so that the venture and its supporters are likely to collapse together.

In the second:
*And man who becomes master of a city accustomed to freedom, and does not destroy it, may expect to be destroyed by it. Because such a city, when it rebels, can always call on the name of liberty and its ancient ordinances, which no passage of time or bestowal of gifts can ever cause to be forgotten. No matter what measures one takes for the present or future, if one does not divide or disperse the inhabitants, they will never forget that name or those ordinances; and, at the slightest incident, they will instantly have recourse to them. [...] In republics, you will find greater life, greater hate, more desire of revenge; memories of ancient liberties cannot and will not give them any rest.

*Injuries should be committed all at once, because the less time there is to dwell on them, the less they offend; but benefits should be distributed very gradually, so the taste will last longer.

The effects of this on Dust and my Golden Age fic hould be interesting. Dust especially, though.

New writer hire puts Narnia: Dawn Treader back on track.

Guys. Not only did Adamson leave, but now the writer left too. This is a RECIPE for disaster.

AND it's the writer who wrote Queen of the Damned, too. That was NOT a good movie.

*facepalms immensely* At least the boys are still going to be pretty.

I am trying to do the following, and spread it out over as long a time span as possible to lessen the impact: read Machiavelli's The Prince, write my Victorianism paper on the roles and expectations of men in the Victorian Age, study for my Natural Disasters midterm, study for my Japanese midterm (this is the one thing I haven't actually done yet), read John Stuart Mill's Principles of Political Economy and On Liberty. I am about to take a break and watch something that does not require me to think at all.

I can't even put on some music and do some mindless knitting. You want to know why? I can't figure out if this story is funny or just pathetic. I had about a skein and a half of Noro Kureyon left, so I thought, hey, you know what, let's knit this pretty scarf that I found the pattern for. So I start it on size 7 circs (I hate straights) and then I run out of yarn about a foot, two feet from the end. So, well, okay, I'll go down to the Quarter and also, I just realized I've told this story before, so there goes that. Let's just get back to the part where I have nothing to knit (look, I have about a million sets of needles, but most of them are 24" circs of varying sizes. I only have one other set of 16" circs, and those are size 10 1/2s). All I want to do is knit something around and around in a circle until my hands fall off.

Oh, and you know what tops this whole mess off? I had a carton of strawberries in my fridge and now they have gone BAD so I can't even eat them, god damn it.
