Jul. 19th, 2008 08:51 pmOkay, no, Bedlam, no. Bad Bedlam.
I don't care if it would be cool, you are not writing post-Last Battle stories where Susan stopped aging when she reached her last Queen Susan age and sixty years later is now an American (because she left England after that train accident, of course) top-secret FBI agent in, like, the paranormal affairs bureau when all of a sudden she gets a "ransom" note from some bad guy types who have resurrected Peter and want them to find a way to Narnia so they could exploit it. No, no, no. "Because it would be cool" is not a valid excuse. Crack after-the-books stories count as AUs and you are not writing either one in this fandom.
I don't even care if she goes over her superiors' heads and rescues bleary, drugged, twenty-three-year-old Peter all by herself, then realizes that she's being tailed by another agent, a hot young thing who wants to know if those rumors about her are true and also (of course) has the hots for her. And then they all kick ass.
NO NO NO. There is crack, and then there is crack. Peter Pevensie/Christopher Chant is not crack. Eomer/Susan and Lucy/Eowyn and Peter/Legolas is not crack. THIS IS CRACK.
Even if it's not strictly an AU.

Date: 2008-07-21 10:07 am (UTC)I've been egging a friend on to write Puddleglum/Trumpkin. *grins* She's about to stroke out at the thought. It's not that I really want to *see* that pairing, it's more about the look on her little face as she freaks out. *is evol*
I don't know how you'd manage to get the four of them together. Any justification to have all four Pevensies leave Narnia would invalidate both the point about Eowyn, above, and also make Peter's initial distaste for Eomer-abandoning his country in need,etc- hypocritical, maybe. I really, truly think and agree that there'd be at least *one* of the four who needed to stay home. In the books, it was mentioned that Susan often did; and I keep trying to tell people, I bet she wasn't having parties while everybody else was away at war. *rolls eyes* It takes a lot of work to run even a peaceful country.
Do you think Narnia might be instrumental in helping the Gondorian allies rehabiitate their countries, later? Because they'd definitely be good at reforesting, mining, healing, etc. Infrastructure! Gondor itself has a LOT of damage to fix, beginning in Ithilien and the outlying areas. Rohan has suffered. Then there's all that Eastern land that may or may not be under the new king's control-I can't remember how much became Aragorn's and how much was tributory, and how much was just people not fighting any more. *sighs*
But in any case, a lot o rehabilitative work, and need for intelligence networks, because spies exist even in peacetime and definitely after a major end-of-the-world war like this. So I can see Edmund needing to come there after the war, when maybe Lucy has gone home? And doing political networking with Faramir and Imrahil and whoever(all slash fantasies aside, those are a powerful duo in terms of personality and would be strong supporters of the new regime).
Peter might help out mopping up traveling bands of orcs and whatnot, unless you think he should hustle home? With Lucy home, if that's where you're going, it would free Susan up to come out and play, but I don't see any real need for that in terms of plot, myself. *shrugs* I'm mostly concerned with a reasonable way to get Edmund out there, in that setting of Gondor, and I think post-war mopping up and rebuilding is a good way.
It would need to be made quite clear that Narnia (and by inference Archenland, which surely swings with her) is NOT going to ever be a satellite country of Gondor's. Or of Rohan. I'm sure Peter would be quite, quite firm about that, and the other 3 all gimlet-eyed, right behind him. *grins*
Of course, after seeing some of the Narnians up close, the freaked-out humans in either country might not really *want* either country.
I keep meaning to read more of your fic, but these discussions are absorbing enough that I get distracted!

Date: 2008-07-21 06:20 pm (UTC)Once that particular mess is cleared up, I think Peter would take the majority of the army home, and leave Edmund in Gondor and Lucy in Rohan to set up diplomatic relations, Narnian embassies, and such-forth, along with trusted Narnian officials and a detachment of guards. That'll get both Lucy and Edmund away from Narnia for the better part of a year, probably, and Peter and Susan back in Narnia taking care of their own problems. (Orcs traveling northwest to Narnia? Maybe!)
