Things that are frustrating: when this Narnia map is the one I have to check, because it's the movie map and it has more detail, and this Narnia map is my default one because it's the one I have in hard copy, but neither of them match up with my mental map of Narnia (well, my Narnia). Argh. Argh. All I want to do is name the damn river that the Pevensies cross in LWW -- and that at least is clear, I'm pretty sure it's the Great River from the map (which is a stupid name) -- but I keep getting distracted by how much the other landmarks don't match up, because, just, no. No. Also, my Narnia is about twice as large in area (not counting everything Peter conquers) than what the map shows, so...it hurts.
If I could draw, at all (or better, at least, it's been a while since I made maps, and that was for my fantasy novel, the one with the elves), I would draw my own Narnia map, and it would make sense, and have Belgarion and Shoushan and Natare and all the rest of those westron countries on the border, and the giants and Ettinsmoor up north (there's a moment of cognitive dissonance in the movie, and I'm waiting for PC to come out on DVD before I expound on it further), and the islands in the west, and just...yeah. One of these days, I should probably do a world map, too, or at least figure out where all the rest of those countries are.
No, I'm sorry, today is going to be the day of a thousand posts, and none of them fic. *sad face* I'm debating if I want to step back from "Old Timber", leave it alone for a bit, then come back and rewrite from the beginning (SHOOT ME) or just keep writing to the end and then rewrite...and rewrite...and rewrite.
And somewhere in the middle of this I have to do homework. God, I hate school.

Date: 2008-09-06 09:21 pm (UTC)*sheepish grin* My senior project that I just did this past year to graduate was a 100K science fiction novel (http://bedlamsbard.livejournal.com/tag/spaceforce). And if you think I'm bad with Narnia, I was a hundred times worse with Spaceforce. Narnia is a walk in the park compared to Spaceforce; I don't have to think out politics in two galaxies, and weapons, and do military and sci-fi research, and worry about a deadline that determines whether or not I graduate high school. See here (http://bedlamsbard.livejournal.com/236000.html#cutid1) for how I'd do research. (This was so I could write a sex scene, by the way.)
Going back to New Orleans tomorrow! Which means warm weather. Mmm.

Date: 2008-09-07 01:39 am (UTC)ya i have seen bits and pieces of that back when i started stalking you. what are you going to do with it?
hooray for warm weather! i envy that. the autumn is settling in up here and you can tell, 'cos of the rain. MAN, after shmoozing at an alumni networking event (i dread these things, but i did get a referral and a business card!) and getting blisters on my feet because of my HORRIBLE SHOES, it RAINED. i had no umbrella. i walked one block in my Shoes of Torture before deciding to go barefoot the rest of the three blocks home and showed up in my dorm lobby looking like a respectable businesswoman who had been thrown into a river. then i took a shower and scrubbed my feet.

Date: 2008-09-07 02:04 am (UTC)Leave it alone until I've got some distance on it, then rewrite it until it's coherent and I have a plot that makes sense and says what I want it to say. Then try and sell it.
Oh, man, I don't think I could ever go barefoot like that. I put on sandals to walk down the hallway in my dorm. And it's not a bad hallway, mind.

Date: 2008-09-07 02:28 am (UTC)y'know, i was expecting new york to be more cramped and dirty, it's actually very wide (such wide streets! lots of open space!) and quite clean. also, when i think city i think manila and jakarta and bandung, which are QUITE cramped and QUITE dirty, so... that's where my expectations come from. i had already suspected i would end up walking barefoot as i was walking to the event itself... then leaving the event, i was like, "well, i'm already soaking wet, what am i bothering with dignity for?"

The first one, I've had as a poster since I was a kid, so that's the Narnia I picture most.
