Oct. 10th, 2008 09:16 pm...and now chatting with
ineptshieldmaid and
realpestilence about Edwina has confused my characterization brain beyond all belief.
It wouldn't be as much of a problem if I hadn't been endgame on Dust 2, which is from Edmund's POV.
I'm just...going to walk away from the computer for a bit until I remember who my characters are.

Date: 2008-10-11 03:36 am (UTC)But I didn't mean from *me*, necessarily...other people are going to wonder what you're talking about and go look. :)
Hmmm...why not make Edwina physically very small and dainty. Delicate, so that no matter how hard she practices or how *good* she is at handling weapons, there's only so much she can do-even archery requires a certain strength of arm to pull the bow, and she wouldn't have the reach for effective bladeplay. THAT would ensure that she would *have* to find other ways to be involved in the political shenanigans. Plus, just think how protective Peter would be...and Susan and Lucy, too, which would aggravate the shit out of her. And she'd go to great lengths to prove she doesn't NEED protection only to get in trouble and prove that she DOES...it's not her competency that's in question, it's how much can ability conquer physicality. :)
Ooops.That's not helping. *goes away*

Date: 2008-10-11 02:40 pm (UTC)So -- hunting trip, ambush, assassination attempt, and it's canon that Peter doesn't have his sword on him during hunts. (LWW.) So he's nearly overwhelmed and he's out of arrows and he's fighting with his hunting knife, his retinue dying around him, before he manages to get one of the assassins' swords. And then maybe he finally, finally prevails, and there's only one last assassin remaining and Peter knocks him around for information (my Peter: not a nice guy), then thinks he has him secured and goes off to, I don't know, something, and the assassin somehow manages to kill himself before Peter can get anymore information out of him. And all the horses are dead, so Peter has to walk back to Cair Paravel, or to the nearest place where he can get a horse. And no one at Cair Paravel knows what's happened till Peter comes in, covered in blood, and walks straight past them all to Edwina, who's halfway down the stairs with her eyes wide...

Date: 2008-10-12 03:30 am (UTC)I don't think it's unreasonable of Peter to bash his would-be assassin around for info. I'd EXPECT it! I get a real medieval lord-of-the manor feeling from your description, coming home to the comfort of his lady wife, kind of thing. I was wondering if it's generally known that they're together? Or is it a surprise to everyone when he just walks up and drags her off to her room? (Leaving the foreign ambassadors waiting in the hall or something, because Peter's got his priorities straght, damn it. *grins*
This migh be "not nice" Peter, per your description; but it doesn't seem liek "crazy Peter", which is a nice change from some of the Narnia-inspired extremity in behaviour...if he's a bastard, it would be because of the situation, or because he wanted to be, not voices in his head-unless you've got plans for that...? I personally would like to see badass!King Peter, hardened warrior, who listens to his sister the strategist, and then takes her to bed and knocks some of that cocky right out of her. Oh, yes.
I'm finding this genderswitch verse interesting. I don't always like them, it depends on the character and so on; but this looks like it would be good.

Date: 2008-10-12 04:02 am (UTC)I really need to have badass Peter some more. Dust. Definitely in Dust. Because he's even less of a nice guy post-WWII than he was during the Golden Age, and that's saying something.
I have to no idea if it's generally known whether or not they're together. I KNOW NOTHING. NOTHING AT ALL.
*eyes Edwina warily* No overwhelming plot arc means no Everse...
