Have just gotten back from the Quarter. Streets so flooded there was a tide. Streetcar stopped running on Napoleon; walked last couple miles back to campus. Had to pour water out of my boots. Clothes in drier. Roommate fabulous, made hot chocolate; the purchased Christmas presents are safe.

ETA: Does it make it better or worse to say that neither of us had an umbrella? Really, at that point it would have just been an extra weight to carry anyway. Also, the plastic strip card-holder thing in my wallet broke -- this is where I keep my driver's license, by the way, and I nearly lost my license in the wild streets of the CBD. But I held onto it! Also, they have moved on from state quarters onto the territories. American Samoa is now in my proud possession, sharing space with Alaska while I wait to get them home to my quarter collection.

*weeps* If only I had thought of that! There is just a point where we stop caring and just start laughing hysterically while walking through calf-deep water. Where there is a tide between the street and the sidewalk because the street has flooded.

leaving work, one of my bosses offered to give me a ride home because it was pissing down. then she wibbled about not having an umbrella so i lent her mine. then she complained about how the street with flooded and the sidewalk was full of water and her boots were getting wet, while i was walking through ankle deep water so as to not have her complain more. the water was just over the ankle reagon to actually get into the car. then i walked through calf high water from the car to the sidewalk when i got home because she didn't want to pull closer to the curb in her giant SUV. the first thing i did was take off the soaking wet cloths. the second thing was taking a hot shower. tea was third.

i hear you on the laugh and just walk through it part. i did that last saint paddy's day while dodging drunken walking groups.

Oh, yes. I pretty much walked into the room, begged my roommate to boil water for hot chocolate, and started stripping down on my way into the shower.

One should not go into the shower to dry out.

Neither I nor my friend had an umbrella. It probably would have been superfluous at that point anyway.
