I have been feeling weird and sad and just generally quietly depressed all day, after a burst of calm while I was in Bruff eating breakfast and reading (the almost sure way to calm me down is for me to eat and read. I don't know, it's weird, it works). Yesterday was another failed attempt at trying to get off-campus with one of the roommates whom I am actually friends with (keyword: another), so today, since it's beautiful and warm and just generally lovely I took myself out to lunch at La Madeleine -- the one fucking thing I wanted for my birthday was to go out to dinner and it never happened, so I finally did something about it. (I actually want to go to a different restaurant down in the Quarter, but La Mad's in walking distance.) Enjoyed chicken pesto pasta and started in on this book I'm reading for my honors thesis. I guess at least in this case throwing money at the problem actually did help for an hour or so, although I got depressed again as soon as I got back on campus. I have to do some reading for my tutorial in two giant books I don't want to carry off campus, so I guess I'm stuck here.

It's really very nice out, though. 55 F, warm, sunny -- shirtsleeve weather.

I'm one of Amy's RL friends, and I am all about meeting people in NOLA.

My wife, [personal profile] rooibos, is a grad student at your fair institution so I drag myself out there every now and again. We live in the grad student building which is closer to the Quarter than you are.

Anyway, I'm active on Yelp; and we have these food-related gatherings once a month where any Yelpers (and friends) show up to nosh. My lady is busy for this month's Feast-Up, but I'd invite you even if she was available. Most of the folks who come to the Feast-Up are older (24+) and a lot more fun than flaky college students. Event link. If you want to come, I'll just let the organizer know I have a +1.

Feast-Ups are no pressure events so don't stress about having to come or needing to impress people or whatever.

Sure! Technically you can RSVP like 20 minutes before the event starts so dither away. Midterms are stressful so don't push yourself more than you can handle.
