bedlamsbard: natasha romanoff from the black widow prelude comic (knowledge (girlyb_icons))
*dreamily* I like Latin. I am also happy about the fact that I had no internet last night, so instead of freaking out at the internet that I was having a mental breakdown (thanks, Shutter Island), I went at the practice sentences from my class with the conviction that I had to translate ALL the Latin.

Also the new setting of Google Docs will not load the complete page on my laptop at home, thanks a lot, Google. (I have switched it back to the old settings; this is kind of a problem when one happens to be co-writing a novel.)

The most shocking thing I have ever heard in a college classroom:

Professor: "I've had a couple of comments on how many notes there are in this class, and I don't know what to tell you, that's just the nature of the subject."

I just -- omg, people think there are too many notes? It's a geology class! IF YOU THINK THIS IS TOO MANY NOTES, YOU SHOULD SEE A HISTORY CLASS. There is no such thing as too many notes! No one is standing over you with a sharpened pencil making you take notes! You don't even have to come to class; all the information is in the book!

I can't even make a "kids these days" comment, because most of the class are upperclassmen (some finishing up the last required credit before they graduate at the end of the summer or in the fall) and older than me. Oh my gods, people.

From [personal profile] bookshop via [personal profile] effex:

LJ has decided to purge inactive accounts and communities and all comments and community entries made by inactive or suspended users. From LJ news:
A journal is defined as inactive if it has not been logged into for 24 consecutive months. A community is defined as inactive if has not been updated for 24 consecutive months. Once an account is eligible to be purged for inactivity, the owner will be sent an email to alert them of the inactive status. The owner will then have two weeks to log into the journal or post to their community to prevent it from being deleted. If the owner does not log in or post, the account will be deleted and treated like any other deleted account (the owner will have 30 days to log in and undelete the account to prevent it from being purged). Purging inactive accounts will take place sometime after we've begun purging suspended accounts, probably in late August.

Inactive accounts include RP accounts, comms where the members or maintainers have moved on, fic journals, fic comms, RP comms, fest comms; the list goes on, and on...

If you have an account on LJ that you haven't logged into in a while (say, over twenty-four months?), please, please do so. If you're a member of a community that hasn't had any activity in two years, make a post.

[personal profile] bookshop's original post: PSA which you will doubtless be seeing from every corner of your flist
[personal profile] bookshop's second post: A proposal

This makes me sick like nothing LJ's ever pulled before. All that history.

ETA: And [livejournal.com profile] news has edited to make it clear that "A journal is defined as inactive if it has not been logged into for 24 consecutive months and has only one post (i.e., the welcome post). A community is defined as inactive if has not been updated for 24 consecutive months and has only one entry and no comments."

Well, that's...a relief. On some level.
