So, does it make me even more of a country girl if I just spent the better part of ten minutes trying to find the "knitting" category on the Kittitas County Fair's exhibitor booklet, PDF version? I thought, oh, Adult Hobbies and Crafts! But no luck. Fiber Arts? No! And definitely not a fruit or a vegetable or a canned good or a draft horse or a fleece or something. It turned out to be in Needle Arts, which I hadn't seen before. It has been a really long time since I entered anything in the Fair; I think I want to do so again! One entry in each lot, so perhaps a shawl and a pair of socks? (Neither of which I have completed -- all my socks have, er, yarnovers done incorrectly, so I wouldn't want to put them into competition.) They don't have to be original patterns, which is good!
I could put earrings in too -- I have before, but not recently -- but I am actually out of earwires. I would bake something, but, uh, I will not actually be in Ellensburg -- or the county, or the state, or this side of the Mississippi -- during the Fair, so I don't think that would go well. I can't see where the exhibit fee is, but I'll pick up a copy of the actual hard copy booklet whenever I see it, and try and find out. I don't think it's that much. And I don't have to buy a pass to get into the Fair, so that's nice, even though I'd get an exhibitor's discount. (I actually used to show animals at the Fair, that was fun. Just dogs, nothing intense like horses or cows or pigs or something.) I'd have to have someone else actually take my exhibits down to the fair office, since I'll be in Louisiana by the time they start accepting exhibits, but I don't think that's a problem. And then I could win money! (Granted, not a lot of money, but it would be nice.)
Also, this is the first year I'd be competing in the Adult category, rather than the Youth category. Perhaps it is less likely I would win blue ribbons, although I am confident enough in my skills to assume I'd at least get a red ribbon. I could add them to my collection! (Yes. I have ribbons from the county fair. Including some Champion and Reserve Champion rosettes and a trophy.)
Although I should probably start knitting, then.
