The term "white hat" would not be known in 1949 Britain, would it? Or America; Edmund or Peter could have picked it up from American GIs? Not a particularly big deal (not like FUCKING UP THE RANK SYSTEM OF THE RAF HELLO), but 'twould be interesting to know.

Also: you know how it's a bad, bad sign when King Edmund the Just loses his temper? King Edmund the Just just lost his temper.

King Edmund the Just just lost his temper.

OMG, who did this miracle? If he's not a Pevensie, probably someone should congratulate him, or her.

The Narnians of Tirian's age. And it's -- not really a good thing. Like, at all. Like, here's the outburst:
Edmund turns in a circle and shouts, “What the fuck is wrong with you people? We’re the goddamned good guys here! You summoned us here! Is there some pertinent part of history that’s been forgotten? We’re the ones that save Narnia like it’s in our sodding job description!”

The Narnians of Tirian's age.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear! Well, these Narnians can piss off anyone from the Golden Age, I suspect, and a large number from the PC era, too! Just like you said, they'd be horrified, and pissed off. *snorts*

So Edmund, it's entirely within reason to lose your temper! Or maybe even a brilliant idea, too! Just to let these guys know that the kings and queens of old are not someone they can mess with. *snickers*

*flaps hands* I can't even explain it without quoting the whole section. It's -- well, you know how the impetus for this was "the Narnians will be worshipping the Pevensies"? Well. Um. The outburst was right before someone (read: Tirian) made the worship thing clear.
“They called on the King of Summer, not the High King of Narnia. The King of Summer, their pet demigod! There are shrines here, to us, like we’re – like Aslan’s –”

Okay, hmm, er, yeah. I think I kind of get it. Edmund snaps because he saw themselves being treated as deities. Poor lad.

Well, that and people are running away from him in fear. Which is what set him off in the first place, and then Tirian explains why, and then there is a shrine, and Tirian crossing himself (but not for Christianity, for the four! Head for Peter's crown, left and right shoulder for Susan and Edmund, Peter's right and left hands, and heart for Lucy).

excuse me, must fangirl you.

:ponders: do they have to explain to Tirian about the whole 'um, it's *aslan*' thing due to the shift in worship like they did for caspian?

Well, there's -- a slight problem in that the majority of the Narnians either believe that, a, Aslan doesn't exist because of Puzzle, who I think was revealed and killed in one of the refugee camps, b, Aslan has abandoned them because the Calormenes have taken over Narnia and the whole Puzzle situation, or, c, they don't believe in Aslan, period.

So, in other words, this will go badly.

:nitpicks: er, goddamned is never heard in Britain. or 'guys' pre-1960s. You'd get sneered at for using americanisms. *especially* in the armed forces. Same for the phrase 'good' in referring to yourself. Same for 'white hats' - you'd know what it meant, but never use it.

for goddamned - bloody, fuck, and sodding tend to work for any situation. also wanker, tosser, and git, though those are exclusively *male* insults (ie, the person being insulted has to be male). Since you'd never say 'we're the good guys' - 'we're on their/your side' is the closest equivalent.

Does King Edmund the Just get to kick arse all over the place? Verbal or physical...or both. :)

I'm sure "white hats" would be known. It came from the movies, after all, like westerns where the good guys wore white hats & the bad guys wore black, so you always knew who was who.

It's not the good kind of losing his temper, like the kind before he goes on a mad killing rampage. It's the kind of losing his temper where every single Narnian they see runs from him like they've seen a ghost. (See above for the exact quote.)

And then he finds out they're being regarded as deities...

Everybody's used to Peter having rages...and I imagine the girls have let loose a few times, in their own ways...but Edmund's normally so controlled and so much about *being* the supportive one, that to see him lose it must be doubly alarming. I doubt he'd be much better pleased at their being worshipped than at being feared.

*is amused*

Are we talking feared because he's the spymaster and thus knows everything/can reach out and get you killed in the name of Narnian security and you'll never know why? (peter, you'll see him when he's coming for you, edmund, you'll never know) Sort of like Putin before he started bombing people.

He wishes he was feared for that, but no, we're in "Dust" here. The Narnians are just terrified in general because their gods have dropped in.

"White hat" - I suppose it depends on how many 'cowboy and Indian' films they watched! I don't know if the term was in use in the US at that time, but if it was I can imagine them using it.

And Edmund losing his temper?? stop teasing and get on with the posting! (ok, going to review the first bit now - its the weekend, I have the time)
